Story

K2 Base Camp in Fortitude Valley beats with the collective heart and soul of its founder Winton Flesser and well-informed team. The team is passionate and eager to help like-minded adventurers on their merry way. Founded on the basis of a genuine love for adventure and the outdoors, K2 is structured around the catch cry “Let all of your challenges come from the adventures you undertake and not from the gear you have chosen”.

The locally owned and run K2 Base Camp has been helping adventurers experience, explore and succeed for 28 years now. The K2 team are only genuine outdoor enthusiasts – people “who live it, breathe it, talk it, and know it inside out”. From their faithful perches on Fortitude Valley’s Wickham Street, K2 has become a Brisbane institution for those at home in the outdoors, local adventure-seekers and a myriad of backpackers, climbers and explorers alike.

Have shopped there before and had a good experience. Today though I went in for a new pair of shoes and didn’t have the best experience. The guy at the counter upstairs was pretty much avoiding me the whole time, wouldn’t make eye contact at all. Eventually told me to look at the wall. Fifteen minutes later I still have no idea what shoes I want because I’m new to climbing. The guy was still helping three other people and didn’t seem to have any time for an extra so I just left to go to a different store. I don’t blame the guy entirely it seems that another person on the floor would have been super helpful. I don’t have any problems waiting but I feel that it could absolutely be communicated more effectively. I do think the staff could have better communicated though whether there would be a longer than normal wait for service, which would have been better than me hanging around for 20-30 minutes with no idea what’s happening. I’d recommend people go there not at peak times because the service I had was below average. It’s disappointing because I know that’s not the average encounter. I’ll try again the next time I need new shoes and hopefully I can upgrade the review. Edit: made it a four due to the reply :
Very helpful and informative team members. Quite a variety of stock to choose from and they are more than happy to let you test various items out in the store. They have a cool climbing wall just large enough to make sure climbing shoes fit comfortably. There is some street parking at the back. Well priced as well.
Purchased expensive Lowa boots size 8.5 and insoles were clearly the wrong size too small leaving a 1.5cm gap at the front that my toes fell into. Emailed after purchase and provided photos also showing difference with my old 8.5 size Lowa boots, and could not even get a reply from K2! I've ended up just putting old correct 8.5 insoles in the new boots, they fit perfectly, but not a satisfactory solution.
Their customer service is second to none - I couldn’t recommend K2 Base Camp enough. They went the extra mile to answer my online enquiry and promptly shipped my order on the same day that I placed it.
One of the best climbing stores I've visited in QLD. Great range and staff all climb or at least know what they are talking about. 5 stars.

Caitlin is great for unbiased and informative advice! I have been debating pack weight vs pack comfort. Drawing on her experience she was able to help me navigate the issue and consider factors I hadn’t thought of. She was more concerned about what was best for my thru hike than just selling me something. Lovely lady! Great service!

The best there is for all things climbing and trekking. Very knowledgeable staff who are helpful and understanding of needs. I had a great experience buying shoes for rock climbing and bouldering there's an awesome range available and have previously found similar when buying other items. Great range of day packs, clothing and shoes.
