The Shanghai juicy dumplings are relatively small and they are not juicy at all. We were a bit disappointed with it. I much prefer the wanton soup instead. Hmm…don’t think I will come back again.
Dumplings were so amazing - both gluten-free and non gluten-free. The xiaolongbao soup was perfect and the wrapping thickness was also just right. The pork in the pan fried pork dumplings were also really delicious. The gluten free dumplings were probably one of the best GF dumplings I've ever tried, and from short conversations, the staff seemed like they really cared and are very careful about cross-contamination -which was really good to see. They were out of the pork GF dumpling which was a shame but I think it's definitely worth another trip back here. Plus they have frozen GF dumplings for sale so we can finally stock up on proper meat dumplings and not the subpar supermarket ones. But most importantly - THE SATAY. Best satay i've ever tried tbh. It was phenomenal. Not sure why others commented on bad service or the cleanliness but I had a different experience - the lady taking my order was very friendly, and the place is as clean as a common diner or any chinese place in the city. The only complaint I have is that it's not located in the CBD for me to access it a lot easier. All in all, i'd highly recommend this place :
I was thinking about 3 star before, but I am going to make it a bit strict as a Chinese-born fussy eater. I agree one of the comments above, as their dumplings are not juicy it's not fancy to make dumplings juicy anymore, buy I did expect to get juicy dumplings because of their names. Prices are a bit high compared with the area I live, but I don't expect to get anything low price in Chapel street anyway. Meals we get are kind of plain, especially for Asians like me. What I need to complain the most is the cleanliness of the restaurant. I can't really understand the idea that why many Asian restaurants are filthy, and this restaurant is one of them. It didn't give me a good impression when I found out the table I used was sticky. It shouldn't take that much time to give it a scrub. I couldn't find many restaurants when I visited there. Good luck with residents in that area, and hopefully you will get more decent Asian restaurants.
Dirty filthy place, that over charges for all thier food and a cook that has no idea what hygiene is as he smokes in the kitchen then handles the food without washing his hands. They cook Gluten Free items and non gluten free items in the same oil and gluten free dumplings in the same machine as NON Gluten Free dumplings. Avoid at all costs.
We travelled 40mins to eat here because of the Gluten free menu that was advertised and the place came across so friendly on social media. It was VERY disappointing. The staff were so rude I was quite shocked, hardly even acknowledged us while ordering and serving. We didn’t feel wanted in the place it was strange. The GF dumplings were disappointing too and were falling apart when they arrived. Definitely won’t be going back here.
Amazing gluten free dumplings! I was pleasantly surprised at the gluten free dumplings - they are slightly tougher pastry than wheat dumplings but still incredibly enjoyable and tasty. I really like how this tests has a non GMO menu and state they use olive oil - this is a huge plus for me! I hope more restaurants will become more transparent like this about what ingredients they use Mongolian beef was very tasty and peace of mind knowing it was cooked with olive oil. Only critique is the order took quite some time to come out and I felt like they forgot about our order at one point. They were very busy though. Also would have liked some serviettes but could not find any Otherwise, great food, will return
Service was not good. Communication is poor and unclear, very little willingness to rectify errors. It was very quiet when we went and it still took a while. Ordered with someone else and food came out at very different times and wasnt the right order. Pan fried dumplings were tasty, but dumpling skin was quite thick. Shanghai dumplings didnt have a lot of soup, ok filling and skin was too thick. I didnt enjoy my experience here.
Never again will come here, food is not only not tasty but looks disgusting too .
Would only recommend this place if you are really sure you are not hungry. The restaurant lost or misplaced the order not just once, not twice but 3 times and we waited for almost exactly an hour before all 4 of us received the food. In addition, I had to create an account and register before I could order food. Never come across that anywhere else.
Friendly and polite staff but the place needs a thorough cleaning and some upgrades. Had the following: Corn soup - taste ok Steamed pork dumpling - just ok Fried pork dumpling - very tasty Xiao long bao - this is really good. Singaporean fried noodles - did not like this, can be improved; it did not taste fresh, more like leftover from yesterday. Chinese tea - very nice If I return, would only be ordering Fried pork dumpling, xiao long bao and chinese tea
