I strongly advise against sending your child to this school. In essence, your education is not valued here, as your curiosity is seen as ‘disrespect’, anything you question a teacher about POLITELY is disrespect. When inquiring about the rules, teachers often interrupt your lessons and provide feeble excuses, condemning students for demonstrating curiosity as if they were being "rude" and then contacting parents as if they had committed an offense. Furthermore, the school emphasizes the importance of following rules, yet enforces many that are not even made aware of or mentioned. If any of these rules are questioned, students are automatically subjected to a meeting with their year coordinator. Moreover, the school's emphasis on "keeping the rules" is misplaced, as many of the rules outlined in the school's rules and regulations booklet are outdated and have not been updated since 2015. Moreover, some rules are not enforced at all. This is a fundamental issue that highlights the school's shortcomings. In a previous instance, I posed a question to a year coordinator regarding the origins of a particular rule. I submitted a concise letter containing no profanity or insulting comments towards the staff or school. The letter merely posed a few questions and offered a few suggestions for improvement. During our conversation, I was criticized for using apparent "rude language" and "disrespecting" the school staff for inquiring about the rule. The coordinator stated that it was "not the school's responsibility" to inform students about the rules. I must emphasize that this statement was indeed made to my face. The coordinator also employed an analogy, suggesting that some rules are not written because they are considered common sense the example he used was jumping out of a window. As someone who possesses a decent understanding of common sense, I find it highly unlikely that not allowing students to study in the library with their younger siblings who are not causing disruptions is common sense. This highlights the primary reason why this school is not functioning as an educational institution aimed at helping students grow and develop; rather, it is operating as a business that forces students to pay for out-of-school care because studying in the library with their younger siblings is deemed "against common sense." While some teachers at this school demonstrate genuine concern for their students' development, others appear to be more focused on their own financial interests. In one instance, I requested feedback on an assignment from a teacher, only to receive a cursory review and have marks deducted for my explanation being deemed lacking in detail. I believe that when students request feedback, teachers should carefully read their work and provide constructive criticism to aid in improvement. Unfortunately, this teacher did not do so. In another instance, this teacher pulled out her phone in class to search for the definition of a term because she "forgot" and provided a random Google definition, instructing us to copy it down. I understand that not all teachers are perfect, but it is expected that they prepare material before class. Instead, this teacher chose to waste class time reading off the board and having us take notes from the textbook. Compared to past teachers I have had, this experience was subpar. I strongly advise against sending your child to this school coming from a former student here. You will regret it.
This is my daughter’s first year at JSR. They have been extremely supportive with the transition into Year 7. There are always activities to participate in and the teachers appear to work hard to make school an enjoyable place to be for the kids. I feel reassured that if there were ever any issues to arise, I would feel comfortable to approach the school for help. My daughter is very happy here and we feel as though we have made the right choice in school.
Was actually a good school, Jason Bartell is a legend & way better principle then hughsey was. Hopefully they get better at keeping out creepy teachers after messina, plenty of weirdos like him taught there when I attended. The fact half the school thought clarkey was a bit too close with half his female students was a pretty open secret amongst students
Horrible idea. Im explaining multiple things here multiple kids being bullied and shamed when i went here i Wasn’t getting the attention i needed for being autistic they don’t listen to your expectations and just say what they want i was trying to speak to a teacher while i was crying and when i cry i am unable to speak so as usual i was asked with shame to use my words and then she walked off they are not noticing the bad things happening the only reason i wanted to stay was my friends even some of them were bad this is by far the most unsupportive school ever especially for kids with special needs
worst school in the entire country, all the teachers and staff are either weirdos or racists. please don't send your kids to this dangerous school.
School has some creepy characters with shady backstories like messina and clarkey
My kids are being respected and their grades have improved a lot
Promised the world and delivered very little with the issues our child was having. Our child was racially abused by a group of bullies From a certain background for a significant period of time and nothing was done. If the bullying had occurred from the other side of the fence the hammer would have come down in a heart beat. This school is essentially a business and it's reputation will be put before your child's needs at all costs. Waiting for the spin after today 01.12.23..
No communication with the parents and teachers emails are never answered and parents are told not to communicate with teachers except through diary.
Was a half way decent school 15+ year a ago. As others have said. It functions as a business, not a facility for young people to learn. It's primary purpose is to make money. Not educate.
