What an exciting place to study. The state of the art library coupled with beautiful green surroundings where I can enjoy nature listen to the birds sing is such a memorable experience for me. Everyone from lecturers, staff and students are so helpful. I love the setup of study spaces and lecture rooms and the fact that at most help desks some fruits and snacks aee set up for the students. The careers, student succeess and well being teams are quit helpful. Looking back this was the best choice for me to achieve my masters.
Disgusted and disheartened to hear about the domestic abuse case. NO VIOLENT OFFENDERS should be permitted to practice medicine. Allowing someone who has pleaded guilty to domestic violence to continue in the medicine program undermines public trust and patient safety. JCU please take action to protect the integrity of the medical profession and the safety of the community.
As a past graduate of JCU, I am disgusted to hear that a domestic violence offender is being allowed to continue studying medicine, a career that is meant to CARE and do NO harm to people. And to further hear that a professor of JCU is supporting this student by providing character reference letters. He should not be allowed to continue pursuing a career where he can harm so many more people, simply for “interrupting a conversation”. Appalled.
A domestic violence perpetrator who assaulted his then partner at a med ball has been allowed to remain in the medicine program. Associate Professor Smith wrote this student a character reference for his court proceedings. It is really disappointing to know that this student will go on to work with vulnerable patients. What a huge stain on JCU’s reputation.
JCU PROTECTS ABUSERS.nnJCU’s actions speak louder than platitudes. Despite clear evidence of domestic violence, including a now-public court case, the university allowed the perpetrator to graduate with zero conviction recorded. A faculty member even supported him in court. Meanwhile, the survivor continues to live with trauma, and has never received the accountability publicly promised.nnIf you’re a female student, faculty, or community member seeking safety, restorative justice, or systemic support, don’t rely on JCU. Their silence and inaction make it clear: they protect the abuser, not the victim.nnVery disappointed that an institution meant to develop healers has shown it won’t heal wrongly in its own ranks. If you're choosing a university based that has human decency, JCU falls pitifully short.
