Great coffee in Middle park. My almond latte was superb! So many nice things to choose from the menu. Plenty of vegetarian options. Can't wait to have brunch here again!
Located on the corner of the 2 main roads leading into Middle Park and near the tram stop, Jack the Geezer was the first cafe I came across and with people sitting at the outside tables looked popular enough to be good. I walked inside and asked if they have flavoured coffee syrups and they did have vanilla which is very rare in Melbourne. They also had a real large size and $6 was cheaper than usual for the size and coffee type. The staff were awkward but not rude and it was clear where to order and where to wait. I got a nod when my coffee was ready, no words and I didn’t particularly like that lack of personal touch. The coffee also tastes ok, not the best or worst I have had. But it was a good experience on a whole, it just needs a bit more heart in the service.
I was a regular even if the service wasn’t really kind do you seriously enjoy your job? but coffee was good. Location is also really nice on the corner but the noise of the car can be an issue. But, after my last experience I won’t come back. I ordered the delicious avo toast really filling the 2nd of march. Came back with friends the 12th by promoting this place. I ordered the smash avo again. I received it after 40 min, without goat cheese, pumpkin seeds neither asperges. I ask the waitress where they were, she took my plate, said the kitchen will change it. She came back: nothing had changed except the disposition of the bread and avo. They were definitely not convenient and didn’t want to help at all. Just hoping to finish their shifts. I’m disappointed especially by not having options paying the price of a smash avo without 1/4 of the description…. sorry?!. I won’t come back, Sorry Jackie.
Excellent food and coffee. Attentive service. Relatively inexpensive. Covid safe practices. Great outdoor seating - dog friendly - we had 6 dogs and 6 people without difficulty. Wildly different meal choices well timed by kitchen to arrive together. Highly recommend this little place. Good gluten free options. Adequate nearby street parking. Might be close to road but planters and kerbing make it a cosy spot. Good for children.
Halloumi burger was good but the fries didn’t taste fresh
We loved our visit to Jack the Geezer. We ordered the delicious smashed avocado which was a very generous serving, the warm porridge with coconut milk & baked rhubarb, the Buckingham Benedict with sausage was a great choice, served on crumpets instead of bread. The insta worthy French toast looked as delicious as it looked. The coffee is delicious and hits the spot. Coffee is by a Melbourne based roaster Madamimadam. Fabulous staff, service was quick, loved the decor, we will definitely visit again soon.
“Geezer noun definition - a man, often old or unusual in some way” Jack the Geezer, self-deprecating, tongue in cheek. An English vibe, while not obvious from the exterior – the vibe transfers in the menu. With menu items like ‘The Full Monte’ ‘Piccadilly Grocer’ and the ‘Ashes Caesar’ you can see where the inspiration comes from. I was invited along with some of Melbourne's most prominent restaurant reviewers to try some of the menu items at Jack the Geezer. To go with the theme, I decided to have the corned beef burger. This was a nice change from your traditional beef or chicken. Proper corned beef not the tinned variety has a comfort feel and for a lot of Australians/English people – this is something they remember from their childhood. Severely underrated – the burger is definitely worth a try. The other dishes that others tried looked visually stunning – something I wasn’t not expecting and therefore was pleasantly surprised. The standout was the pancakes with mixed berries, they were very fluffy. Service was great and the food came out very quickly. I also had a chai which was tastily comforting. The interior is warm and straddles between spacious and comforting. A great option in the Port Melbourne area, there’s no pretension with this place but their outputs rival anything that’s big on Instagram at the moment.
Been here a few times but the last time was really disappointing. Had to wait for 1 hour for our meals this was at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon. The first meal of pancakes came out 10 minutes before the second one and did not have 3 out of the 5 listed ingredients - missing the almonds, pistacios and lemon curd. When this was mentioned to staff, they looked at us like we were speaking another language and went to ask someone else but never returned with an answer! Service really needs to improve....
Conflicting score, coffee was good which is where I find it hard to rate. Almond latte was a good coffee I had two.... our food we ordered and my partner changed his order and they stuffed up and gave him the wrong item, when we told her the waitress just said oh sorry and walked off? I had the avocado dish, it was very confused... avocado, pomegranate, shredded carrot, pumpkin purée, mint, parsley, fennel mix with rocket ricotta cheese and an egg on pumpkin toast.... bit confused. Service was slow and I feel maybe our food was forgotten as tables that came after us all got their meals while we still waited and had to ask. Might try again in future but not sure
Nice spot for coffee and brekkie. Conveniently located at the far side of Middle Park and just outside Albert Park / Lake - perfect for a post-walk stop. Coffee is great and the menu has lots of slightly different breakfast options to try. The toasted sandwiches are awesome. Lots of shaded outdoor seating.
