In the office they tell you that there are no people who serve the public in the office. That you should call or that all the information is on the page. They should realize that not everyone knows the information they are looking for. And if there is an office there should be people trained to speak to the public, connect and help.

Rang them to confirm my ird number and the friendly operator told me that I had 7 and half grand waiting for me.
The human interface of the Inland Revenue phone number is possibly the second worst in the country. The worst belongs to Novopay. However Inland Revenue's Palmerston North office is the pearl among the sewerage. They are cheerful, patient, considerate, and will go to any lengths to help you. You are treated as a valued client, you are respected and you actually leave the place feeling good. They are an example of what customer service should be. Well done folks. Thank you very much for your help.
So it would appear that I am a little “out of the ordinary” because I cannot praise IRD enough for the incredible assistance they gave me while trying to sort out a very serious issue for a family member who had been the unwitting victim of a person who purported to know how to file tax information and returns, but who failed to do so, resulting in massive fines and penalties. I could not fault the staff or IRD, even though I got a different person every time I called probably no less that 10 times, the system ensured that the person could see exactly what the issue was I was dealing with and so just picked up where the last person left off. I would never have believed that IRD could be so obliging and so enabling. By being completely upfront with the Department, all penalties and interest was credited off the debt - well done IRD, I couldn’t have sorted the mess with out your patience and help. Your staff in the call centre deserve a pat on the back for their professional manner and helpful advice.

yeah, why are we paying for muppets who never answer the phones? No wonder you're behind closed doors. I will never pay any more taxes. And I wouldn't have given you one star but I can't post otherwise. You will have to take the skin from my back.
Want Help?? You will be lucky. Phoned and told due to high demand we cannot answer your call. Cannot post unless you have given at least one star. I do not want to give any stars. Previously tried RealMe to log in. Did not recognise me then IRD came up with Page not working.
Fix the phone lines hire more call centre workers something this is pathetic for a government agency
