If you live in Melbourne, you probably already know Il Carretto Pizza Restaurant and I can't tell you anything you don't already know. If you're visiting Melbourne, like we were, what a great find for genuine italian cuisine. The meals were promptly served and the attached pics speak for themselves. The food was great and the decor is interesting too. We highly recommend dropping in for a meal.
Pizza was good with its thin base. Steak was cooked to perfection and spaghetti marinara tasted marvellous. What else do you need from an Italian restaurant. However, it looked like a place from late 80s. I guess some people like the old furniture/decoration look. Service was excellent as the waiters were attentive as well as welcoming.
Great food. We went on a Saturday night, just after 7pm. The place was extremely busy and at capacity. The decor is dated and very culturally themed, however I suppose it reflects the family history. Food was of very high quality, however I think they must've been short staffed, because we had to wait quite some time. For a double front premises, at capacity, only 3 waitresses were assisting customers, taking orders, serving food and tidying up. They were quite literally run off their feet. Everyone there was very polite and the food did not disappoint. It was just so busy, there was not enough staff, and we had to draw their attention to place our orders.
Absolutely love this Italian restaurant! The food is authentic, wholesome and generously portioned. It feels like a home away from home with the decor and friendly staff. One of my favourites in Melbourne.
Prices have been rising and food quality has dropped since a couple years ago. Pizzas are vastly overpriced. Depending on what time you come, the person making the pizza might not care about your order. Restaurant is more popular on Sundays, nice warm environment too.Food: 3/5
Some good traditional Italian! Food: always delicious traditional Italian food. Never disappoints. Have had many dishes here, the pasta never disappoints. Venue: very Italian! All the pictures on the walls are a great feature, so many people have visited this spot. A change in the seats would be nice, as they can get a little uncomfortable over time, otherwise a cute restaurant. Service: attentive, though at times a bit abrupt. Overall okay. Overall, recommend if you’re after a traditional Italian experience
Discovered this restaurant accidentally in odd hours after COVID19 lockdown and visited again shortly after the first visit. Margherita pizza was delicious. Pizza crust was perfect. Discounts on take away pizzas. Ordered Cappuccino and both the time cup size was different but coffee was good and strong. Staff was friendly and restaurant ambience was good. Its quite spacious inside and outdoor sitting is also available. I will recommend others and will also visit again.
Italian fun decor.. carbonara absolutely superb. Marinara.. lots of mussels.. lots of vongole.. 1 large prawn ... I calamari ring . Sauce was bland.. no flavour of garlic ..chili.. or wine . Asked for garlic bread was told we don't do garlic bread. A basket of bread was thrust at us..was not fresh or crusty for moping up sauce. Booked table for 5.30 . At that time restaurant was not full. Was nicely greeted and welcomed by pizza chef . Waitress ushed.. or should I say pointed us to our table underneath the restaurant phone and computer.. ring, ring, ring and was privvy to orders calling in and being put into computer behing my chair. Very distracting. As there were plenty of other tables staff should have noticed and offered to move us. The 2 familiar waitresses have still not found a welcoming ..greeting .. attitude.. Lacking in customer service skills. No smiles no interaction .. no eye contact... plenty for guests who arrived that were known to them. Decided not to stay for desert .. Took too long for plates to be taken away. The overall ' dining ' experience was not a dining experience more like cafeteria. After paying our bill, on the way out, Pizza chef again nicely interacted saying thank you for coming, enjoy the rest of your evening .
Disappointing experience. Ordered focaccia to have prior to main meal but unfortunately the main meal arrived first. Focaccia lacked taste and main meal of fish was over cooked and overpriced for what was presented. I don’t like giving a bad review but in this case warranted. The only plus was no corkage. Doubt that I would recommend or return.
Asked for extra pineapple on my Hawaiian but not only did they forget it they gave me no pineapple at all. I even payed for it. I have gotten pizza from here before and never had this problem.
