I was delighted with the food at Hux. We ordered the 1kg tomahawk steak with sides of mash, coleslaw and pepper sauce and there was not one thing wrong with it. The steak was beautifully cooked, the coleslaw and mash were fresh and creamy which is refreshing when most places don't do mashed potatoes properly. The bottle of wine we got with the meal was also above average and the service staff were very nice. It's a smallish restaurant but it's clean and nicely presented. We would definitely come back to try that steak again. Hell, if we lived locally we go back even more to try other stuff on the menu.
Had the burger which was a good combination of proper flavours. Bit on the small side but a good part of beef. The place itself is fairly robust if a bit grubby. I'd go back for sure in spite of the broken toilet that hadn't been cleaned in a couple of days. All part of the modern Australian dining experience I suppose.
Had an Angus rib eye, asked for Medium rare but come out medium / medium well, talk to the manager, re-fire a new one, then come out rare, and i decided not to make a fuss and just eat whatever i can as im hungry, and my family almost finish their meal. Wife's fillet and kid's rump was cook correctly, may be it is a bit tricky to get a 450g rip eye with bone right. For me? It was Okay, ordinarily, not outstanding steak, For a lots of people out there, it might be outstanding steak. Just my humble opinion.
We've been here a few times now. Some times with family celebrations and other times a catch up with friends. We've had fish, hamburgers, Tomahawk Steaks and Wagyu Rump.......best steaks and most reasonable prices we've come across. Jay knows how to cook a steak.......we honestly wouldn't think of good big somewhere else for a steak on the Sydney North Shore.
The standard was not consistent, or the chef was not consistent after all. order 2 medium rare angus rib eye and 1 medium eye fillet, eye fillet was cooked perfectly but the 2 angus rib eye, 1 is rare and 1 is medium / medium well. Seriously? haha, good on you master chef candidate, i wouldn't be back for sure. Or i should said " if i knew the head chef was one of the master chef competition candidate, i wouldn't come in at all."
After having a really good meal the first time, we returned to cold, recooked and rubbery ribs and scrambled creme brûlée. Made a complaint and instead of being taken take seriously and receiving an apology, I'm told that I'm a smart a** and a w*nker. Not a restaurant I will be returning to or would suggest. Not with service like that
Great value for money steaks. Service a bit up and down but good food.
Great food, reasonably priced but make sure you check which days they allow BYO.
Really amazing service from the waitress. She was very professional and courteous - Request Sharyn if possible!
Excellent. Beautiful steaks, tasteful desserts, and lovely atmosphere.
