Parked the car at the top of Coach Rd and started from there .Go through the white gate. Fairly steep walk up the hill. But stopped to look for orchids.Stayed on Coach Rd We decided against walking up the waterfall and did a bit of Rockdale track and looped around back to Coach Rd and back to car. The stones made it a bit slippery coming down the hill.
Great place. Plenty of birds and fine walking trails. Highly recommend.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
This is quite a challenging hiking trail. First time there, went for the waterfall hike. Most of the paths were narrow and rocky. Some parts had to jump over rocks to cross the riverbeds. Needed to climb up some huge rocks to continue the path next to the waterfall. The hike is more suitable for teenagers and up. Carpark has only 8 spaces, many have to park on the side of the road on weekend. Very adventurous for first time hiker. The park needs more maintenance though, many fallen trees along the hike.
Parked the car on Coach Road, walked up and did a small loop at the southern end, also explored some no through sidetracks. There are a wide variety of flowering shrubs and herbs and nice views along the way. It is a good time to see orchids. Edit: Parked one car at the Horsnell Gully road entrance and the other at Giles CP entrance by the end of the Ridge Track. Rockdale Hill hike joins the Heysen Trail that leads to the Giles ruins and further to the southersn end of Giles CP. There were a couple of hundred meters of level tracks, the rest is uphill or downhill.
5km loop, up an overgrown riverbed/waterfall, then joins a fire trail up the top that descends past a quarry back to the carpark. Not the best trail but still fun for adventurous hikers.
Nice place for a hike with less crowded. Bit isolated even though closer to the city. When you hike around 3kms up, you will see the Gypsum mine that currently operating.
Great hike. Stunning views of the city to one side, and rolling hills to the other side. Easy track with a short gradual climb
Fantastic place for a hike within half an hour of Adelaide. The trail along the stream gradually climbs up with great views of the Adelaide area. A little slippery in parts especially after some rain.
I love this park BUT.....seven and a half acres of this park has been destroyed by the neighbouring White Rock Quarry. The quarry claims it's their property through signage but it's not. It is crown land. They filled in a billabong. See final 3 aerial pics of the same spot changing throughout the years They dump their waste and sludge AND use the lake water for free. The lake which is absolutely beautiful, has been unnaturally dammed.
Beautiful hike, but needs more landmarks along the trails. They also require more volunteers to help clear the overgrowth.
