Women's Health Tasmania adopts the World Health Organisation’s model of Health:
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
In keeping with this definition Women's Health Tasmania is run by women for women according to feminist principles. It actively consults, respects and listens to the views of all staff and Board members as well as the women who use our services. We strive for consensus decision making, undertake ongoing research and information gathering to inform current practice and ensure the service is responsive to all women especially those who are vulnerable, experience disadvantage and discrimination.
How do we do this?
From an holistic health perspective, by engaging in public debate for the benefit of women’s health and by working towards improving women’s health and well being through participation, collaboration and partnerships with women, the community, women’s services and other organisations.
By providing:
information and referral, individual & systems advocacy and lobbying to influence women’s health and short term counselling with a social worker.
