I started looking for a place for my husband who had developed dementia, i was sent places that would have been so inappropriate as my husband was not at the stage of being bed bound or needing to be fed. I thought that I would have to have my husband at home with me for good. One of my friends said she volunteered at a place called Hammond care and to go and have a look, I made an appointment and went to visit. I was greeted by the admitting manager who showed me the various houses in the village. What I noticed was the friendliness , the residents knew her and she knew them . People of similar level were in each house and I saw that residents were happy with staff . I was then told not to stress about finances she was very reassuring that every thing would work out and at that point I was not going to look any where else no matter how long it would take for my husband to be admitted.nI find that the staff are so supportive and if I am visiting at any of the meal times I am offered a meal with my husband. The food is cooked fresh and residents come to the kitchen as they would at their home even like folding material napkins and setting tables. I highly recommend Hammond Care for your love ones.
ZERO STARS! BEWARE! Waiting to die at Hammond Care Caulfield. Don’t be fooled by the beautiful garden, the nice open plan cottages and the slick marketing jargon.nnThis is a business run by a Sydney centric ‘christian organisation’ unable to retain competent and skilled managers in Melbourne.nnThere is no real scheduled lifestyle activities program.nResidents are left alone for many hours daily inadequately supervised nothing to do.nnThere is no menu provided in advance on a weekly basis to residents - there are no food choices and the food is cooked by care staff with varying degrees of expertise.nnPersonal hygiene of residents is neglected by Hammond Care . My mothers natural teeth have rotted out of her mouth due to lack of assistance with oral hygiene. Also, the provision of high sugar content fruit juice as one of the few hydration options provided contributes to the dental abuse at this facility.nnEven though Hammond Care enjoys charity status, Hammond Care is a large Australian BUSINESS that puts BUSINESS first.nI’ve discovered that ‘Model of Care’ is a slick marketing phrase unsupported by methodology documentation.nnYour loved one, like my loved one could be left at Hammond Care Caulfield Village with little to look forward to in life other than waiting to die.nHammond Care steadfastly refuses to provide a fulltime lfestyle and activity co-ordinator and engagement team.nnYour loved one, like my loved one, will not be provided with meaningful activity on a daily basis or little if any activity for that matter.nnYour loved one might be asked to fold serviettes as an ‘engagement’ activity or stock the shelves in the Coles onsite ‘shop’. Supposedly these are ‘home like’ duties.nnAt Hammond Care the definition of ‘engagement’ can mean as little as assisting a resident to put their socks on.nnI have seen residents left for endless hours with nothing to engage them, no one to talk to and nothing to do but die. Cottages are regularly understaffed . Residents are locked within their individual cottages with access to a small back garden.nnQuality of life at Hammond Care Caulfield Village leaves a LOT to be desired. Few if any, suitable activities to engage residents means that residents can display unwanted behaviours due to boredom and loneliness.nnOverstretched care staff are expected to also be the cooking and cleaning staff too as well as engagement staff, the cottage receptionist and laundry maids. It’s been my observation that the hard working care staff fare little better under the Sydney centric management than the residents.nnCottages are from time to time left unmanned overnight, residents suffering dementia locked into their cottages.nnHammond Care have repeatedly REFUSED to provide a full time Lifestyle and Engagement team for the sixty plus residents living at this facility. Hence many people with cognition and ambulatory skills deteriorate more rapidly with little if anything engaging to keep them interested in life.nnIn the past this organisation has had a very enviable business model using ‘volunteers’ almost exclusively to provide non specific ‘engagement’ to fee paying residents. Covid saw the drying up of ‘volunteers’. Residents deserve to be provided with world class engagement activities provided by qualified and dedicated staff.nnThe Hammond Care electric bus - donated by a benefactor but is rarely used because Hammond Care does not employ a full time bus driver!nnSince being at Hammond Care my mother and I have been assaulted in her room by another unsupervised male resident. My mother was hospitalised and nearly died from an undetected C.Diff infection from lack of personal care. I have repeatedly, over periods of months found my mother wearing clothes with faeces on them and recently my mothers teeth have broken off due to lack of oral hygiene.nnIt’s too late down the dementia journey to move my mum and alternative arrangements are not viable.nnPlease think very carefully before committing your loved one to a lonely, end of life experience at this terrible place.
HammondCare has provided my husband with dementia appropriate care. They understand dementia and know how to support residents and their families through the various stages of this very challenging disease.
Where do I begin? I’m just so glad my dad isn’t there anymore.nKudos to the very hard working staff that have a heart of gold. There are also many that should never work in aged care..!!
I have worked for Hammond Care December next year will be my 10th year I started as a carer and got promoted to Laundry Manager, I can guarantee your family's clothing will be looked after by Me and you get it back the same day . ,I'm excited about our new changes at the GLENS .New bathrooms ,beds king singles mattresses ,new outdoors .Our Chef works really hard to provide the best meals for all our residents.nmeals for for our residents We are kind and we care about your loved ones.I love my job and thank the carers and the work they do.
