We spent most of the Easter weekend meals and a sneaky late afternoon drink after being out and about at the Halls Gap Tavern and we loved it. Chris and his team were beyond accommodating. The food was seriously delicious and the overall ambiance was warm and inviting. We will definitely be back next year and Chris, thank you so much for your generous hospitality
Wonderful Meal! We enjoyed a great night at the tavern, meals were delicious. Staff very helpful, my husband is gluten free & loved the barramundi dish. Would recommend, well done to the staff who are doing a great job.
Had dinner here 16/01/2023 best meal we have had in a long time and fantastic service. Chris went out of his way to accommodate my grandson and all his allergies which was much appreciated. Thanks for the heads up on the up and coming events in the region we'll see you in May.
Chris is an exceptional host. We have been here 2 days in a row on our travels and he has been more then accommodating for us and our 2 dogs always bringing buckets of water as soon as we have been seated. Parma’s for dinner were great with everything you’d look for in a good meal. Be sure grab a stubby holder if visiting…Chris assures me these will one day be a collectors item and I’m sure he’s not wrong! Great place, great atmosphere! We’ll be back!
Went to dinner here twice during our stay. Had two fantastic meals. Great price, great quality. Pizza and pasta were delicious. My kids had an icy pole with their meals and my niece wanted one too. I asked Chris behind the bar if I could get one for her and he gave it to her free of charge. 10/10
We ordered chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy, burgers, pizza and kids meals. All were cooked perfectly and great value for money. The bar man / server was super friendly and a superstar for the tavern. We will definitely be back next time in halls gap and highly recommend
Good service and atmosphere but food is on the average side. Had a lamb shank with red wine sauce and it was like the red wine was forgotten in the cooking process! Also, I was obviously served frozen veggies.....Food: 2/5
Pizza and calamari were excellent. Chips super crispy. Bar manager was so lovely..super friendly and service was excellent. Such a lovely outdoor area to dine in.
Halls Gap has an abundance of accommodation and places to dine - from Air B&B’s, motels, lodges,caravan, camping, restaurants, cafes and I’ve stayed in and eaten at almost all of them. In fact I remember camping here in 1965 and hearing my first ever koala bellowing to attract a mate. Here I am tonight all these years later in a town that suffered dreadfully through Covid with lack of patronage and later when it opened, lack of staff. Tonight we tried #hallsgaptavern which looks somewhat dated from the outside but don’t let that fool you. On a Monday night, the place was busy with diners. Chris, the owner, bartender, server takes your food order and he’s an all round great guy - reminds me of the typical Aussie man who has a heart of gold and knows how to deliver good customer service. My partner ordered a scotch fillet steak medium rare and it came out perfect. I mean perfect! As a fussy steak eater, he was rapt that 300kms from the heart of great Melbourne food, Halls Gap held its own. I ordered a vegetarian pizza which I’d ordered the night before at another local eatery. Yes I know, I’m not vegetarian but it’s my favourite pizza. OMG - the size, the toppings, the flavour superb. Living in Melbourne we can choose from gourmet pizzas and diverse range of bases and toppings, this was a down to earth, back to basics, deliciously tasty pizza and a large portion size. To accompany our meal, Chris recommended a bottle of Mt Stapylton Shiraz and again, great choice which apparently an award winner in the region. The ambience has a very rural and endearing feel. It’s what I love it about eating locally. Wholesome food. Fabulous service. Thank you Chris and your team for a memorable dinner. Parking available on site. Disability access. Didn’t check the bathrooms. Dining outdoors available but watch for the kookaburras that’ll cheekily fly down and snap up some of your food. Kangaroos plentiful in the paddock next door. Cockatoos and Corellas abundant. Well worth a visit.
The manager Shane was really lovely & hospitable. The rooms provided necessities which is all we needed & for the cost it was great value, right in town & walking distance to everything Would definitely visit again! Mel & Wayne Food & drinks: Ate at the Tavern 2 out of 3 nights, fantastic meals both times. Quick service, great value for money!
