I'm fairly new to Gympie, plus, disabled, and been looking for a way to get out and meet people, and get away from my digs for a few hours a week. The Mens Shed seemed ideal, and I went along. Well, well, all men are welcome, but only if able-bodied! I cannot recall when I was last made to feel so worthless. I cannot wear boots on one foot, and yes, there is a large workshop area, so I understand the need for safety - it is a no-brainer. But to be told their facility "isn't for you" was a real shock. There is NOWHERE you could safely sit and have a coffee? My background is electronics, and electronic workshops don't have a rule requiring boots, and I'd hoped such an area might exist, but I didn't even get to ask. I have no doubt the Gympie Able Bodied Mens Shed is a great facility, but not if you're like me. Yet again, disability rules out everyday activities - one I'd so looked forward to based on other reviews. And whilst being disabled, I am capable of living alone and getting around, as needed. To paraphrase Derryn Hinch, shame, shame, shame...
Love the idea of the Bargain Center, sadly I came along the wrong day.. Anyway, top job, keep up the good work!
My father joined recently the Gympie Men's Shed and he is LOVING it. Everyone there has been absolutely fantastic. Thank you Gympie Men's Shed.
