I am very disappointed to realise, along with so many other regular purchasers of Gold Coast Bakery bread , that the great decrease in taste, texture and softness of the Gold Coast Bakery Wholemeal bread is not due to random bad loaves as I have been thinking for past couple of months, but due to the unfortunate addition of extraneous ingredients as used by other large commercial bakeries. I had a hiatus when I was not eating bread and came back to my old favourite, GCB wholemeal, to find it a much changed product! In addition they have recently added “fermented wheat flour” which is deceptive way to list propionic acid without actually listing it as an ‘e’ ingredient. It sounds wholesome, like something a traditional baker would make. But this is more of an industrial trick - manufacturers control the process to churn out propionic acid — a preservative that keeps bread soft and mould-free.nnThey ferment wheat flour with certain bacteria, which produce propionic acid. This chemical and its salts, like calcium propionate, are the same preservatives listed as E280–E283 in other breads. The clever twist? By labelling it as “fermented wheat flour,” companies skip listing the E number altogether. So families that are skipping labels with propionic acid for the welfare of their kids, BEWARE!nnIn addition, bakeries claim it is a ‘preservative’ but really it is a mould inhibitor so that if the dough is made in equipment that may have been left wet and be growing mould in it, this counteracts it.nnIn addition, GCB have now added soy flour in the mix as well, so if you or your kids have a soy allergy, again, BEWARE!nnIt’s sad that a bread that was soft and tasty enough to eat just plain out of the packet when I was hungry, is now l almost always stale and has little taste compared to before.nnWhy buy a company that has a USP - in this case its ‘clean’ profile and ‘traditional taste-first’ approach - just to spoil it and make it like every other mass produced bread? It’s so disappointing to find iconic brands familar for decades are constantly spoiled like this.
We had Amielia drop our bread King Henry Rye to our door when he he process with Cole’s failed! Amiela is an amazing employee doing everything to make sure we didn’t go with out for too long!nCole’s didn’t follow best place work practices either so hopefully when you get it into a new venue it will and we will have a long life with king Henry bread cheernAndrea from Bahrs scrub
Your delivery truck almost ran my kids 3 over crossing the street on a crosswalk in Daisy Hills, on 2/28, around 1:30pm!!! There were no lights, and they were already half way through the crosswalk! The truck didn’t even slow down or stop at any point! Just kept on going! Don’t even deserve 1 star!
