Pretty fabulous. My wife and I went there for her birthday childless - my goodness!, and immediately I was impressed. Cozy, clean, nice decor, touch of French elegance without being stuffy or overwhelming. The wines were great, and the service was, I think, quite good. I admire a place that has the confidence to put one - one! - item on their menu as a main meal, and again admire it for being roast duck. At any rate we had some small plates, and it was uniformly excellent. Veal is a winner, and the taramasalata was perfectly salty. I loved, loved, loved the arrogance with which the barman took a single coffee order from two women who wasted the last seats on a busy Saturday night. The gall of them, and good for him. Anyway they didn’t stay long, and left mostly because, I think, they could be heard loudly complaining that they used to get their coffee for free. And in fact of course they were charged for the single coffee. Good show
a sweet spot for a wine but we’ve got coffee i had coffee instead. look great in the backyard, perfect for summer
This is the most magical place I have been to in Melbourne. We went for an after dinner drink on a Tuesday and ordered some cheese. The waitress recommended the match of a red which was the most incredible French wine. We then had the last slice of their almond tart and the recommended drunken raisin port which was the perfect way to end the night. The decor and atmosphere was perfect and the service was warm, easygoing and beautifully attentive. A definite must do if you're in fitzroy for any amount of time.
Worst service I ever had in my life. As soon as my partner and I came in we were seated at the uncomfortable bar, which was fine since we were just there to have a couple glasses of wine before heading to dinner at Cutler and Co. After being ignored for 10min from the waitress and bar workers, we asked for some recommendation and to try a couple of wines, the waitress didn't seem to have any wine knowledge at all, just repeated everything we said and then recommended of course the most expensive wine on the menu which flavour wise, was not what we were after at all. after trying 2 wines that were not to our liking, the bartender, came with a different bottle forcing my partner with a glass without us ordering anything announcing "you're gonne like this one!" - she did not, since it was opened a long time ago that white was already off!, we asked to have a glass of the previous one we tried - at which point the bar worker yelled out "you can't try every wine", it was disrespectful and insulting, we tried 2 wines, at a wine bar - you would think that a wine bar would be accommodating for that. after that we just walked out feeling really insulted. really bad experience, really bad service, wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Cozy place ie small, very small, but I wouldn't call it "classy", more casual or rustic maybe? The staff were lovely and very attentive. The food was a surprising disappointment however - I ordered the anchovy and olive oil toast and received a few small slices of sourdough and a half-opened tin of anchovies with the cardboard label on the plate as decoration. I could have popped down to Coles and done the same thing and it wouldn't have cost me $14!
Excellent lunch - smoked eel pate, salumi platter, jamon and veal schnitzel w crunchy coleslaw. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented and delicious. Attentive service and superb wines. Outstanding.
Great wine selection by the glass or from the wall! Friendly service and delicious food. This place is great for a relaxed afternoon of grazing and sipping!
We pulled in here early evening for a wine and nibbles. The young French guys were really knowledgeable and patient with making wine selections. The wine and cheese board ordered was really well put together.
Something has happened to this place..its not as good as it used to be..staff were rude, my glass of wine i ordered never came and who serves cold meat balls at dinner time? Isnt that what you eat the next day out of the fridge. The only positive was the coffee and the two guys playing guitar...
Lovely little wine bar, great pinot noir recommendation from staff. Nice background music, and never had a problem getting a table. Come here regularly
