Owned by qualified French pastry chef, Marc Frissard, alongside with his wife Luana, Gateaux saw its doors opened early April 2010 and has met with immediate success. Had the lemon tart, vanilla slice and almond croissant from here and both were amazing. One of the best I’ve ever had. The vanilla slice pastry was unique and delicate, the lemon tart had a perfect mix of meringue and tart and the almond croissant had a perfect amount of almond paste inside. Highly recommend and would definitely come back if I was in the area.
Wonderful little french pattiserie at Mentone parade. The cakes and pastries are amazing and tasty. Friendly staff and decent coffee to accompany the cakes. No seating area, only grab and go and few tables outside. Will come and try other varieties of cakes
Best morning break in Mentone! The french bakery items are superb and the coffee, particularly the genuine chocolate used in their mocha's, is excellent. This cafe is no longer a secret in the area either - it's getting a regular crowd lining up for their goodies.
Very dissatisfied with the amount of fillings in both the almond and chocolate croissant. I don’t expect over the top full, but this was a bit ridiculous. The almond cream was nice but sparse. The pastry was nice but nothing out of the ordinary these days. That was my first time here and I think I’ll be going back to my regular French patisserie in Beaumaris concourse.
Ordered a Camille cake for my daughter's birthday to share with her family. Had to order from overseas. The service was great - simple & effective. And the cake evidently smelt amazing and taste and textures was a wonderful experience - according to those who were there. Many thanks - helped make a special day even more special.
Have been meaning to check out this place for a while. Certainly wasn’t disappointed! Wonderful range to choose from and all look amazing!
I was looking for a last minute cake for my partner’s birthday and Gateaux were so lovely and accomodating. They were able to organise a Genevieve cake with only 24 hours notice. The cake itself was just delicious and all my guests were raving about it. Will definitely be back!
Had a chocolate croissant it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered a mocha and it had Nutella inside and it was great. Highly recommend this place.
The Millefeuille was amazing everyone at the party said it took them back to France. The taste and texture was perfect. By far the best Millefeuille in Melbourne.
Great little cafe, pastries and scones made so well. Mocha and hot chocolates made with real chocolate!
