A family-owned food place selling homemade dishes, dumplings and noodles. I ordered xiaolongbao and fried pork and chives dumplings. Xiaolongbao was okay but wasn’t juicy enough. When I ordered fried dumplings, I thought It would have been like other places that they pan fried it. But this place deep fried the whole thing until crispy. Taste alright but not a favourite of mine, should have ordered the normal steamed one. The lady serving us was nice.
We discovered this gem through Amy from the Blondie in China and this place did not disappoint. When you first walk in you might have some doubts because it’s not as busy as the other 3 Shanghainese restaurants next door but the food we ordered was delicious and very authentic. We ordered cold dishes pigs ear, pork tripe, and hot dishes xiaolongbao, pan fried baos and sweet sour pork ribs. The xiaolongbao was very soupy, the skin was light and thin and the pork filling was hearty. The pan fried baos were super crispy on the outside and soupy on the inside. It is sad to see the business struggle due to the pandemic and hope our review can encourage more diners to try out this place and support this local gem
Behind the dated decor, lies our local culinary hidden gem. I’m from Shanghai and I’ve been a regular customer of this shop for more than 10 years. I enjoy the authentic Shanghainese dishes that they make, just like the way my grandma and my dad would cook them. No frills. No fluff. Just old schooled style Shanghainese home dishes.
It isn't the prettiest but the food always rocks. The shepherd's purse is a must have for dumpling lovers. I have tried most of the restaurants on the strip and I always come back.
there are only two people working in there, sometimes theyre busy. But it's understandable. The food is AMAZING! Uncle and aunty serve us nice. It feels like home.
I ordered the salt and pepper tofu It was so crispy , delicious and the chilli, garlic shallots which really made it so good Vegetarian options: I love the tofu and the celery salad with tofu So good
Unfortunately tonight I'm very disappointed, I order online 4 tipe of dumplings and they came all very cold and dry, my wife order a rice with vegetables and was also so cold and dry. First time I try this place and never again. 10 minutes down the road and everything was all ready cold? Don't lie, this food was preparing at list 1h before the delivery came. Very disappointed! 88$ in the rubbish
Yummy food. Cleanliness could be a bit better but the sweet and sour pork is delicious
I’ve been going to the restaurant with my family since I was a child. It is family owned and has the warmest service. The soy duck and salted chicken as entrees are must tries! I’ve never had a similar flavour explosion from any other place. The pan fried buns and cold dishes are authentically Chinese and reserve a special place in my heart despite all the new pop up restaurants around it. This one is the original and the best. Almost everything I’ve tried on the menu has been great value for money and you will not regret the experience once you visit. Even though I live more than an hour’s drive away from Ashfield now, I still make the excuse to pop in and eat or get takeaway from the food bar at the front when I get a chance.
First time visiting in almost 2 years and did not disappoint. Xiao long bao pork soup dumings and pan fried pork buns are our perennial favourites and they were outstanding. Gotta be some of the best Xiao long bao around, soupy and full of flavour. We always say we should try some of the other things on the menu cause they look and smell great but we never do cause we love our faves... And after almost 22 month absence nothing else got a look in. Hopefully not so long until the next visit.... Yummo
