Boutique art classes and workshops held in an artists studio, hidden in a heritage Victorian building in the heart of Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

Story

Beginners:

This class is designed for the complete beginner, and through a series of exercises and examples the student learns the fundamentals of painting, including choice of mediums and materials, preparing to paint, basic colour theory, and composition.

We have two specifically designed courses to enable the student to confidently continue painting at home, we offer a short 4-week introductory course and an extended 8-week course. This course is also recommended for those wishing to refresh old skills.

Intermediate and advanced:

This class is offered to beginners who wish to continue after completing the 4 or 8-week beginners course, or those with some prior painting experience. Students work on a mixture of set projects and their own interests, and are encouraged to develop their own language and direction. All students continue to receive one-on-one teaching.

Best painting class ever! As an American moving to Melbourne, this has become one of the highlights of my time here so far. Have taken a lot of classes to meet new people, and this is by far the favourite and only one that stuck. I look forward to it every week. I've been a student of Adriane and Kez's for over a year - beginner's class, intermediate class, and now the atelier drop-in class. You'll be surprised at what you can achieve with the support of the teachers and other students. Yummy wine & cheese too. Love it :)

My friend and I signed up for a 4-week Fitzroy Painting beginners course and 2.5 years later, we are still there. Not only are the classes fun and social, they are very insightful. And I feel my technique improves with every session. Adriane, Kez and John share so much of their knowledge and create a welcoming space where all painting styles and abilities are celebrated. Whether you want to be challenged or just chill - I can definitely recommend. I can also recommend getting a spot by the window - great light as the sunsets over fitzroy

I started here as a beginner two and half years ago and love it! A friend and I completed the 4 week beginners course and now continue there on Tuesday nights in the atelier class taught by Kez Hughes. Its a fantastic group of people, a safe place to learn and develop skills as well as a place to socialise and chill out. There are varying skill levels and no pressure to be a great artist! The cheese and wine are a great touch too. Cant recommend highly enough!

As a longtime student of the Fitzroy Painting Studio and now part of the Atelier class, I am always inspired by Adriane and Kez. Not only as artists but through the expert technical training they provide. They offer students a breadth of information not offered at other classes. Topics such as artists materials, exhibiting as well as specialist classes by other well known artists in art history, portraiture, landscapes and more. It’s fun plus there’s wine and cheese!

A fantastic painting class that’s invaluable for both beginners and more intermediate painters. Both Kez and Adriane (successful commercial artists and teachers) will help you structure and build pathways to achieving solid painting technique. They’ll also help you explore your own preferred painting style. Highly recommend this course!
