Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food was just ok. I'm not from this area so maybe the food is a bit more local than my usual. I ordered the mixed grill, with a butter sauce on top, mixed very well with the chicken. The chicken gets 4 stars but the other meats get 3 stars. Also we ordered the shrimp and pasta, came a bit hot and the noodles a bit soft, too hot to taste at first. I think a few adjustments could really improve the food, but I did enjoy my meal and give it an average rating.
We have been to Figaro twice in the past year but have decided not to go again. Two weeks ago we booked for 6 people at 6:30. When we arrived there were only 2 tables occupied but we were told our table wasn't ready so were asked to sit on the end of a large group table while waiting. They obviously wanted to seat us on a table where a young family were enjoying their time and eating and were hoping they would be gone by 6:30. Then after about 15 minutes we were asked to move to another table where we settled ourselves and started looking at menus. After about 10 minutes we were then asked to move again when the other family left. One of our party is nearly 90 so moving from table to table was not ideal! What does it matter where you sit?? Four of us ordered a veal main and we all commented that the veal was over cooked. The salmon and pizza were good. The previous time we went we all ordered dessert but my lemon tart did not arrive. After waiting a while this was queried and it appeared that the waiter didn't place that order with the chef. After another 10 minutes I am told that they have run out. By then everyone else had finished their meal. Couldn't that have been ascertained before taking dessert orders?
I have been here 3 times over the last year. I think I have finally found my favourite Italian restaurant in Canberra. Pizza and Pasta was delicious but my favourite dish was the Veal Probito - simply amazing. This is an honest Italian restaurant - it doesn't feel dressed up. The dishes are full of flavour, prices are fair and servings are generous. Book ahead as it is hard to get a table as a walk in. On a side note it would be nice if they could fix the door.
pretty ordinary. For a small place like this, the service was slow - we sat at the table at 8pm, and the mains arrived at 9:10pm. My slow cooked lamb shanks were overcooked to my taste and tasted more like a stew. They came with pesto souse, the same one we had 30 min before with focaccia. The steamed veggies were pretty tasteless.
I really like Figaro, for awesome Italian food, just near my house. Figaro restaurant in Kingston is becoming the best place for locals to get great food & with good service, though there is an increasing need for bookings to be secured early. Figaro opened its door over ten years ago and despite it being a steady contender in the best Kingston area, it is undergoing a resurgence amongst diners from all over Canberra making it one of the busiest places around and therefore one of the hardest places to get into. Booking early - at least 48 hours in advance - is about the only way to ensure that you're not disappointed. I've been aware of Figaro for only the last couple of years and have enjoyed the consistently high standard of cuisine that the chef provides. The big change has been in that I can no longer assume to get a table in my favourite corner. Since coming here, I've enjoyed the pasta, cooked properly and with delicious sauces, though I've also learnt that if the chef offers something not usually on the menu, take the chance to order it, as some of his rare morsels are life-changing and mind-blowingly good. If you can, go with a large appetite, as there are lots of temptations, not least of which is their tiramisu, which can't be passed by. To say that it is only delicious is selling it short of the sweet delight that is so true to form for this Sienese classic dessert. Figaro is a gorgeous reminder of why Italian fare is so beloved and why we seek it out so frequently.
We had a family celebration dinner with our 4 children and their partners, 10 in total, and had a lovely night with great service and beautiful food. All up that's 30 serves and not a single complaint. Thanks again to the staff at Figaro for such a great night.
After 15 years of keeping Canberran foodies well-fed, Figaro has closed. The owner and figurative heart of the business, Jemma, has closed the doors for the last time to allow more time with her family and pursue a career, building on her gained business acumen. Figaro will be missed by locals like me. Best wishes to all the staff.
The food was ordinary this time around. It used to be better. They also charged me two lots of credit card surcharge, once on the bill and then again automatically programmed into the eftpos machine. Also, when I offered up some feedback on the quality I was told off for not telling them sooner and giving them a chance to fix it.... or serve me up another lame meal and waste some more of my time. There are plenty of better places nearby or take the short walk to Kingston Foreshore or Manuka.
My favourite place to eat! Amazing pizza and pasta, friendly staff, and well priced for food quality. Always an enjoyable experience every time I eat here : highly recommend.
Beautiful. Food was amazing, good quality and portion sizes were amazing. Service was great, staff were attentive and polite.
