Firstl of all its a small place limited seats available so better to book in advance. The food is so good- it tastes like it's home made food. My favourite dish was lentils rice- it's so good! Honestly even better than the one that my mum makes .. and that's a huge statement! The atmosphere is nice feels like you're dining in the middle east. The only issue is the staff I think the can't speak much English and they're not Arabs so it was hard to communicate with them. They forgot to get me my drink and they forgot to get us another dish we ordered..
Love coming here!! Free refills of bread when you order a dip. The hummus and eggplant dip is good!! All the lamb meats sausage, skewer & minced were so yummy. BYO here and opens till late!! Great for groups!
Friendly staff. The place has been around for over 50 years. Lots of old photos inside. They only opened for takeaway on the Saturday afternoon when we visited. The restaurant looked nice like you have stepped back in time. We got a number of things: two rolls with chicken and lamb, two vine leaves rolls, two baklavas, one rice pudding, one kibbeh and a soft drink. The bill came to $60 which was higher than expected for takeaway. The food tasted all right, the portions seemed small with the rolls.
Longevity isn't always an indicator of quality. Fatima always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. There was a time that you could "fill the shish pipe" wink wink. But know it stands on the usual stuff. The service was hilarious "have we ordered the right amount?" "I am not you. How would I know?" Brilliant! The food is patchy, and nothing will get your hand to a report to anyone about any of it. But apart from the microwaved pastry disaster of a deliciously filled spinach pie make us wait 10 minutes and use you oven, there's no complaints either. Yes the babaganush should be smokier, and the lamb shish isn't as charry as ideal, but it's all pretty good. I like erciyes down the road a bit better, but Fatima is good enough for purpose.
Avoid this place. There are better lebanese restaurants around. Don't waste your time or money here. This place sucks. The food was dry and small portions. It was expensive too. The photo I took was medium! Gosh it was tiny! And we paid 30 bucks. There was only 1 staff member on a public holiday. And it was soooooo slow. We waited 30 mins for a small serving of chicken.
On my search for good lebanese restaurants in Sydney, I decided to explore any place I pass by.. Fatima's had a good reputation over the years. I wanted to have a taste of the experience.. The food is fairly good... However, every restaurant specialising in a cultural cuisine, needs to have a person that knows about the culture in the restaurant all the time.. For someone who thinks that a food experience is not only about the taste, it is about the cleanliness, the freshness, the vibe, the music, the service, the seating, the colors... Everything comes into play when serving food.. Based on that, I couldn't really have a full experience especially that the food as well lacked some sort of traditional taste.
Got here in the middle of the night with nine other ratbags. Received amazing food, cheerful service and great value. There were no crackheads in the area either. Good times, five stars.
Ordered home delivery with a mixed plate and chicken skewers and cauliflower. It added up to about 70 dollars. Our family was looking forward to eating it It arrived. 'ONE' piece of bread. We rang and asked about it. They replied with . Mixed plate comes with one piece of bread. We also ordered chicken skewers. So We won't be ordering home delivery from Fatima's again. A reminder this would not happen anywhere else EVER. Proven in the fact We normally use their local competitors. And this is why. Apparently it free bread with dips when in store... BAD FORM .
The best Lebanese food! My go to place after a big Event Photography gig.
This place used to be utterly incredible. Moved to the area 9 years ago Cleveland street and went there weekly. Our whole house used to walk down and order it religiously. Have been ordering once or twice a month since then haven’t left Surry Hills and have slowly watched the portion size fade away. To the point tonight, I got one piece of bread with my BBQ mixed plate, and dips that didn’t even cover the base of the foil plate. Need to step your game up.
