Story

Opunake’s own little theatre in the heart of town. Everybody’s Theatre started in the 1920s and is now a source of nostalgia for the cinema of yester year and while showing today’s current films.
There aren’t many cinemas about that are owned by the town and run by volunteers. So be proud Opunake, and support this iconic part of our community.
With the completion of our major renovation at the Theatre in 2016 we have our very own Projector Room ( sweet store and theatre memorabilia, display room)

Boutique Theatre recently renovated and upgraded with original features still intact. An elegant historic theatre which has been restored to its former 1921 glory. Creating an atmosphere of a bygone era. Watch a wide screen digital 2D movie in the comfort of a couch. Upstairs includes some of the original theatre seats. Golds & Black are the feature colours throughout the foyer. While three stunning art deco styled chandeliers grace the ceiling; a bold geometric carpet entrance. You will find many original fittings and doors in use today. Great murals of old movies on the parapets outside. Full credit has to be given to the Community and the Volunteers who run the show. A special mention to Debbie Campbell who managed the Renovation and Earthquake strength'g and council requirements of the building. There was a time not so long ago when they had Lions in the theatre and the people were caged inside.
