This is a fantastic theater. The place is nostalgic, very classic, yet modern. I prefer the Deluxe Hall to the Grand. The Grand is just big, but there is no place to hold a drink. The Grand is like an old style, whereas the Deluxe has a more modern vibe.
My favourite cinema in Wellington : it has one very large theatre upstairs mainly for new realeases and block busters and smaller ones downstairs. Staff are nice and friendly and buying tickets is the old fashion join a queue and purchase over the counter or purchase online and queue to pickup your tickets or order food and drinks - no times flashed on overhead screens or ticketing kiosks. So best to organise a little bit of time for queuing if you’re planning to watch a movie during peak hours. You can also visit the beautiful ‘Black Sparrow Bar’ downstairs street level for drinks or finger foods, and also pay for your movie tickets there but certain times it’s closed and you will need to go upstairs or just wait at the lounge for when your show opens up- although it’s closed on Sundays. Service is always friendly and courteous. If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan, this is the cinema that hosted the official premier red carpet launch of the movie : you will find some movie props on display in the Black Sparrow Bar- although I wish there were more movie props!
The Embassy is a delight to visit, I always arrive early so I can walk around and absorb the grace and nostalgia of this wonderful theatre. Service is friendly and professional. The viewing on a big screen and great sound system always adds to the experience. My favourite theatre in Wellington.
The birth of awsome fantasy helping promote indie cinema around the world. Epic stories and primers. New lines Awsome stories including the lord of the rings. Roads that lead to seats I love good stories and movie theaters that house them.
Will not show movies in the afternoon why?, you are missing out on a lot of business, seats are massively uncomfortable. I do love going to the Deluxe cinema and the Black Sparrow part! Last time being in the grand watching the Star Wars a thon during Attack of the Clones, there were these two unconsiderate people who sat beside me and continued to mock the movie relentlessly if you see this, I hope you do just know how horrible your behaviour was acting like children when you could’ve left if you clearly didn’t enjoy the movie. I did ask the staff to see if there was something they could do, it was every 5 seconds they were giggling and laughing like crazy. No matter how many times I asked them to please stop as this movie was one I was waiting a long time to watch in cinema before because I never have. The staff only sat in for two minutes before leaving and did nothing to help or offer any compensation for the constant disruptions I faced. I do like coming here but my experiences could be much much better. Also please stop showing movies only at nighttime, you are one of the few main cinemas in CBD Wellington, consider your customers more.
