I visit Elsternwick Station regularly as a local and have used it countless times over the years. It’s on the Sandringham line, and acts as a bit of a hub for the surrounding suburbs. It is a really convenient station whether you’re travelling into the city or heading down towards Brighton and Sandringham. The station sits right underneath Glen Huntly Road where trams run directly overhead, making it easy to transfer between train and tram. There are also buses servicing the area, and if you’re driving you’ll find parking nearby on surrounding streets as well as a few public parking areas depending on the time of day. The station is impossible to miss thanks to its entrance and location.nnOne thing I really like about Elsternwick Station is just how much there is around it. Step outside and you’re immediately surrounded by cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries and local shops. The beautiful Classic Cinema is only a short walk away, and I often find myself spending time around Elsternwick before or after catching a train because there’s so much to explore. It’s one of those suburbs where everything is within walking distance.nnThe station itself is bright and easy to get around. It’s fully accessible with ramps leading down to the platform. Before heading down to the platform you pass through the main waiting area where you’ll find seating, public toilets and the staffed customer service office. There’s usually someone available throughout the day if you need assistance.nnThe platform has Myki readers and top up machines, making it easy to tap on or add credit before travelling. There aren’t barriers, so moving through the station is nice and straightforward. There are also vending machines available if you need a quick drink or snack while you’re waiting.nnElsternwick doesn’t have a cafe inside the station itself, but honestly it doesn’t really need one because Glen Huntly Road is full of excellent cafes and bakeries literally metres from the entrance. If you’ve got a few minutes to spare before your train, there are so many good places to grab a coffee or something to eat that you’re spoiled for choice.nnTrain services are generally excellent, especially during peak hour when they arrive regularly. Even during quieter parts of the day I don’t usually find myself waiting too long. The Sandringham line has always felt like one of Melbourne’s calmer train lines too. It doesn’t tend to get quite as hectic as some of the larger lines running through the city, and I usually find people are pretty respectful and relaxed while travelling.nnI also really appreciate how accessible the station is. Everything is clearly signed, it’s easy to find your way around, and the platform is wide enough that even during busy periods it never feels cramped.nnElsternwick Station might not be one of Melbourne’s landmark stations, but it’s one I enjoy using. It’s practical, well maintained and sits right in the middle of a suburb that’s well worth exploring. Whether you’re heading to the Classic Cinema, grabbing lunch, doing some shopping or commuting to work, it’s a really pleasant station to travel through and one I’ve always found reliable.

Elsternwick Station has everything you need to start your journey with minimal drama.nnForgot to top up your Myki? No worries there are two Myki top-up machines.nnNeed caffeine before facing Melbourne's public transport? There is a handy little coffee shop on the left of the entrance, ready to transform you from don't talk to me into I suppose I can survive this commute.nnOn the right of the entrance, instead of one of those wall mounted help speakers that make you feel like you're ordering drive through from the 1990s, there are actual customer service staff. Real humans!nnAccessibility is well thought out too, with a ramp providing easy access to the platform.nAnd if you're travelling at night, you will often find police on the platform. They are there if you need assistance, which is much more reassuring than trying to convince yourself that the mysterious noise behind you was probably just the wind.nnOverall, it is clean, convenient, easy to navigate, and has enough helpful features that you almost forget you are waiting for a train.

How about putting a sign at the top of the ramp to notify when the next train is coming or delays? Rather than finding out when people get to the platform.

I had a great experience with friendly staff who went to a fair amount of trouble to locate me when my wallet was handed in. They were in touch before I had even got home. Most appreciated.

the lads and i run this joint, from the platforms cessation to the doors of the station, we own this nation.nnwe dont touch on, and we like to put our dirtly little disgusting cheesy stinking feet on clean seats of the train.nalthough, we would get up for like an old person or someone with disabilties, or an injury, or a woman who got knocked up, or maybe someone who was deaf because like i heard their balance might be impaired, or maybe someone who just is having a bad day, or someone who is feeling a bit sick or munty, or someone who is blind coz they cant see n dat, not that they would be reading this anyways.nnim a big big fan of the victorian metropolitan transport network, i have studied all of the tracks and know them like the back of my hand. i will be hanging out there on my bike next week so if you need any help come and ask.
