What an eye opener. Smithton should be very proud of the robotic dairy. Guided tours are available. Our guide was full of knowledge about how the robotic dairy came about. Don't forget to buy the cheese that is also made on-site. A must see if in Smithton.
This is a really informative tour and a cool experience to see the automated milking system.nWe met gorgepus 2 day old calves and let them suck our fingers, which was both beautiful and sad. The cows seemed super happy coming into the milking robots on their own schedule. The kids loved it when the cows activated the head scratching robot.nWe learned about cheese making and enjoyed a cheese tasting as well!
Well worth doing this dairy tour and cheese tasting tour whilst in Smithton.nThe tour is next to, and cheese tasting inside the Visitors Centre.n$20 entry for adults.nFantastic tour of the dairy. To watch cows being milked by 21st century AI Artificial Intelligence machinery is amazing. This technology is incredible to watch & learn.nThe cheese makers story is very interesting.nThe tasting of 8 different cheeses was great. Prices to buy cheese was around $15. I really enjoyed this experience. And the coffee from the Cafe was excellent too.
We were very impressed by the Duck River Meadows Dairy tours which we visited on Monday. The whole tour was well run and very interesting. We had no idea that milk production had come so far. We saw some very happy cows giving plenty of milk. The cheese factory is so much more hands on making a variety of cheeses mostly by hand. After the tour we tasted and brought some yummy cheeses. Everyone was so helpful and informative .
Very informative tour. Darrel’s knowledge was profound and easy to understand. Fun to see the cows going by and getting milked by the automated machines. 100% recommend
