I used to get my hair cut at Doppelgänger about 20 years ago, and recently returned Dec 22 & Jan 23. It’s been great to walk in and feel the same chaotic-good vibe I remember, and get an awesome restyle from Kitty and Melissa. Both have been super helpful in listening to what I was after and skilfully and efficiently making it happen, helping me dial in a cut that works for me and the almost-zero time I want to spend looking after it daily.   The conversations I’ve been around for have been super inclusive. It’s definitely a salon I’d be happy to recommend to any of my friends or their tweens/teens, 100% including LGBTQIA+ friends. I see another commenter says they didn’t find it inclusive and while I don’t want to discount their experience, I do want to offer that the conversations I’ve been part of here have been super positive and diversity-affirming, in a very pub-vibe way as opposed to the much more HR / schools way which is what I’m mostly around!.  These guys remain awesome. I recommend!

Doppleganger Hair creates a welcoming place for the queer and trans community, while delivering incredible looks. I’ve gone from copper red to platinum blonde with Mel, and have my healthiest hair to date. Couldn’t recommend more.

Today was my first dapple at Doppleganger Hair. I tried this place out based on Reddit recommendations and I'm so glad I did! The team is super fun and inclusive, they ask your pronoun preference and you get snacks! The energy is caring and lively. I felt like they absolutely understood my vision and brought it to life far greater than I could have dreamed. I still can't believe this hair is mine, thankyou for making me feel at home in my body and freaking badass! Kitty, Melissa and Amanda you three absolutely unreal, thankyou so much. I'll be back!

Wanting to find a hair salon that would best suit my needs, as an alternative person, I found DH on Google, and was excited to finally find someone that could replace my usual hair salon that is no longer in operation. Enquiring with the owner, they quoted me an “initial price” for a cut and I assume wash and blow dry was included at $110.  They went further to say that this was an initiative to make it gender neutral.  I get needing to stay afloat, financially, but this just sounds like it’s intended to make it inaccessible to a vast majority of people. That’s not gender neutral - that’s outright classist, and goes against any ethos of the community that this hair salon is taking advantage of, just to make more money.  Shameful, to say the bare minimum.  Edit: in light of the owner replying - yes, it does make you classist to expect people to pay a “gender neutralised” price, which ends up pushing away a lot of prospective clients that simply can’t afford it. That is what classism is, by definition.  Feel free to scroll through the messages sent and received on that day, no mention of a free consultation is made, and I had to ask what that price actually included, because “your polite and friendly management” chose to leave those details out of the initial contact messages when giving the price.  And no, I’m certainly not entitled to anything never said I was, by the way, but going off the response to my initial review, and that of the person I spoke to on Instagram, I’d find far better customer service skills at either K-Mart or McDonalds. Been a long time customer - love Mel’s work especially given how difficult my hair is. Recommend her for everyone with difficult hair who wants colours not found in nature.

Spent the weekend down at Newtown and decided to get a new haircut, I’m personally not one to get haircuts as often and messaged “Doppelgänger Hair” to see if they had any available appointments and to get advice regarding a particular style etc.  Another local service was quick to respond with a friendly approach and booked me in straight away, this service was no longer needed.  The reason of my one star review was their response via Facebook messenger which was the most unprofessional and arrogant response I have ever received.  “A narcissist Virgo is not a good vibe . “  Only because I didn’t reply to their message? And to block me after that comment was also quite cowardly.  Will all do respect, looking at my personal Facebook and to make such an unprofessional comment from a business is deeply disappointing. I do not recommend engaging with this hair studio.  I do have screenshots to proof this negative experience.

Had the pleasure of getting my 1st undercut at Doppleganger hair. They truly took care of me and Josh is a true gentleman with an attention to detail. Love my new do and will be returning for my next buzz

I was initially sceptical that coming into a new salon with really fine, damaged hair, that I wouldn't get exactly what I was after in terms of a cut, colour, and aftercare. I felt so relieved and looked after by Melissa who was super understanding and I felt was experienced with my hair type. I had no idea what colour I wanted and Melissa came up with a beautiful combination based on my preferences, skin tone and what I was drawn to. The investment of a completely new style and colour was so worth it. In addition Melissa was able to provide me with plenty of guidance and advice in terms of aftercare and styling which I had not previously considered. Will definitely coming back again to see the lovely staff in future!!Service:&nbsp;Hair coloring
