Went here for dinner on New Years Eve, service was 5 star as was the food. Even the potatoes were spectacular, every dish was a flavour bomb. Wine list expensive but we enjoyed the cocktails and they were reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning for lunch very soon. Highly recommend the Apple Soufflé, outstanding
From the moment you enter this divinely exquisite restaurant you a treated like you are royalty. It something quite special. The food was delightfully delicious and presented like a piece of art. You pay for what you get and that is an experience that you will never forget. Love every moment of this beautiful restaurant.
This is one place I won’t be going back to. I don’t mind paying a bit for good food so long as it’s something special. Unfortunately I can’t say Donovans delivers on that. The portion sizes are so small, super expensive and not special at all. The drinks are a rip off too. $45 for half a bottle of wine? The wait staff need to be more clear when explaining the specials. We ordered the sword fish expecting a nice, big fillet and got a few paper thin slithers on a plate with some garnish. Furthermore, my partner got food poisoning shortly after we got home and was not well all night. Not a pleasant experience.
Used to be one of our favourite steakhouses in Melbourne but not anymore. While the steak was flavourfully seasoned, the quality of the meat was mediocre. The produce used to be of better grade where the lettuce was crisp and refreshing, now both its steak and vegetables are no more than regular supermarket quality. The potatoes were cooked in oil that is way too hot resulting in poor flavour, I personally would not serve that to a customer. Disappointing dinner seeing how the standards have gone down the drain and definitely overpriced for the quality of food served
I love this place. My regular restaurant in st kilda. The food is lovely and the service is always good. Perfect for your anniversary dinner. Make sure you book the table next to window for the best best beach view
Great customer service. Not much space between tables, the restaurant was full and very noisy during our meal. Food was good but I was expecting something better for the location and price.
If I could give Donovans more stars, I would. This restaurant is simply magnificent. The service is outstanding. They make everyone feel welcome and relaxed. The food is wonderful and the location is very special. I do recommend a lunch as the views over the bay are lovely, but at night it is warm and welcoming. You do have to book well in advance as it is so popular, but if you are visiting Melbourne, you must make time to visit Donovans.
The food was delicious, expensive but delicious. Slow cooked lamb shoulder followed by the chocolate fondant. The Donovans punch is flavourful and refreshing, sparkling water is ridiculously expensive. Wait staff can be hit and miss depending on whose attention you manage to get. The view at sunset rescues the fact that seating is VERY close when other patrons two tables away chose to speak loudly. Thankfully we were in a cosy corner right beside the windows. Book well in advance. The restaurant is not as pretentious as their wine list would have you think.
Not a rating I want to give, the food 5/5 and the waitress 5/5 but the reason for this rating is down to the managers rudeness and attitude. Twice the wrong bottle of wine was brought to our table, we asked to just have two glasses instead as we had nearly finished our mains and didnt want to drink a bottle with no food. The manager was rude and made out like it was our error receiving the wrong wine. At the end of the meal he came and threw some chocolates on our table and walked off. Very disappointing, we have been here before and loved it but his manner was terrible.
This was the first visit and it was fantastic food 5/5, pretty diverse wine list led predominantly by Australian bottles but with some European options, a few solid cocktail options as a good start or end. To start the service was great - dropped off later in the Meal when it got busier which was a shame. It’s not cheap so be prepared but ultimately seemed worth it - crudo of the day was snapper with a ginger that was great, the pâté was exquisite. Watched an electrical storm for a great view - beef cheek main was to die for as was the caramelised pumpkin - will definitely be back.
