Warm and inviting...nBUTnMy first 2 choices were out, so I chose lamb shank.  Overpriced and under delivered.  Meal was under whelming and certinally not good value for money.

Bar staff were friendly, fast and polite but I wouldn't let my dog eat their food.nI, a cook with 30+ years experience, ordered the local 300g with chips n salad.  My daughter, a qualified chef herself, got the gnocchi. The meat smelt weird and was half rare half well done. The gnocchi was gluggy and gross. The salad had a near flavourless dressing like Mayo was mixed with water.nThere's no point complaining as the kitchen simply does not care.nI ate at the criterion nearly daily for a few years when it was owned by the previous family and now I wouldn't recommend a homeless, starving man eat there for free.nIts so sad to see whats become of a once great hotel.nRIP Criterion

Good food, selection of beer and friendly staff.

Very quick stop to wet the whistle as we passed through town. Appreciated this dog friendly venue.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly but the food was substandard. My husband's steak smelled and tasted as though it was on the verge of going off. The vegetables were barely cooked, and the mashed potato had obviously come out of the microwave.  I had a chicken burger on the recommendation of a staff member...chicken was so overcooked it was unrecognisable as chicken, very dry and I only just managed to eat it.  Guess we won't be returning.  Such a shame
