This place has an awesome reputation, thoroughly deserved. We chose to share a crayfish salad and a seafood basket. The presentation is simple and most of the seating is outside. The quality of the food and the stunning setting draw people to drive the 40 km south from Haast. Am amazing experience- a lunch to remember and a place to return to. That first mouthful of crayfish was divine.
By far one of the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. The fish of the day was fresh as it can be and the chips were thick and crispy. Totally worth the drive from Haast and very warmly recommended. There's a very nice and short Bush walk starting nearby too. Another reason to pay this place a visit. Vegetarian options: We had a beautiful Haloumi salad. VERY tasty and fullfilling. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly Parking: Lot's of parking places around
Food was AMAZING, scenery was FANTASTIC. I would give this 7 stars if I could. the owners / chefs were so friendly and nice. Definitely worth the drive in good views on the way there anyway. We sat outside and the breeze + summer skies were beautiful. We had the blue cod fish n chips v fresh and soft, crayfish salad the seasoning was ace, like lick clean kind of ace, mussels there were so many and the sauce was potent and it was enough for 5 of us. All the dishes were really good and even the chips were great! We had coffees too and those were good.
Exceptional cuisine at this quirky little spot at the end of the road. We had the whitebait patty huge and delicious with generous tasty salad and seafood chowder also delicious with plenty of seafood. One of the best meals I've had on the West Coast and worth the drive. Highly recommended!
Brought a group of 18 here mid-March 2019 and we returned today in our motorhome. Not much has changed and still a very popular place to visit. Very busy today with a half hour wait for our 3 meals of blue cod and chips - not the cheapest meal, BUT certainly up there with the best! So fresh ... can't beat it! Really good to see a policeman checking boat catches as they return back from fishing. Very hot today and an exceptionally pleasant way to spend a day. South Island has many hidden treasures and this truly is one!
Drove from Haast around 30km. Read a review of it , and sounded pritty dam good . The crayfish salad was sold out . We both had a Seafood Chowder, I must say it was good. The chowder was thick , creamy and full of fish . Washed down with a cold beer . A very busy shop with public toilets across the road . Hrs are from 11-3pm . Nice and sunny with a great view out to sea .
It’s was worth the 20 min drive into Jackson Bay for this gem. One of the best seafood chowder I have ever ate. Fish and chips were great as well! Please view of the bay with good food is the best you can ask for.
Absolutely worth the drive. Amazing Whitebait fritter with a delicious salad. As it was wet we were inside their cosy cafe. Wait staff were fun & attentive.
We had heard about the Craypot through others in the area and thoroughly recommend a visit. The drive is about 30 mins south of the Haast Junction along a bumpy road which has some interesting history in itself. The Craypot provides some simple fish and chip options with enthusiasm and great service. Views are to die for although as in other areas of the West Coast, those sandflies are still little buggers. We also cold a cold beer and wine. Dietary restrictions: They were to provide gluten free option and pan fried the Blue Cod which was delicious
Fabulous little seafood restaurant with great food and friendly staff. Right on the foreshore. Take some bug repellent with you, the sand flies are small but voracious.Food: 4/5
