I’ve been to this place many times and it never disappoints. The menu is seasonal, the wine is sensational and the new pizzas are amazing! I never miss a chance to make a booking when I am coming through Newcastle.
The positives were the price $30 mains, portion size, freshness, great service. The dishes we had were Mulloway fish on a special menu and vegan lasagne. The flavours I felt were just simple, good value plain food appropriate described as a quality pub meal. We felt a disappointed that the lasagne tasted a lot like tomato paste.
Cosy restaurant located in a good location. We were visiting from Sydney and found this place online and decided to try it out. We ordered the fried squid with lemon salt as a starter. It was tasty but a little bit salty for my liking. For mains we had the prawn fettuccine which was very tasty.
We tried their pizzas, which were new on the menu, and they were sensational! Authentic and great crust! Have to come back to try other dishes on their menu.
We went on a vacation to Newcastle. I went to dinner on Friday in time for the opening. The food was excellent and the staff were kind. I want to visit again next time. I think you have to make a reservation for the weekend evening.
Friendly staff and delicious food! Handmade pasta and gnocchi shine with fresh produce. Meals arrived at the table promptly, portions a good size and the food was hot. The fried squid entree was large enough to be a main and if gnocchi is your thing, then you must try the beef cheek dish.
Was delicious! Had a wonderful meal, generous servings and wonderful service. Def worth a visit. Would be good to have a few dessert options although given how full we were it wasn’t really an issue.
Love knowing that Coal River has my back when it comes to a quality mid week takeaway option, No fuss call and pickup, great flavours and they change their menu enough that you have new options. Great job team!! Also to the beautiful waitress that served us if you read this, you’re an absolute legend!
Fantastic food. Great service
