The municipality has a thriving commercial and industrial sector with over 9,000 businesses employing approximately 65,000 people - making it one of Victoria’s busiest employment centres. With an estimated manufacturing output of around $10 billion per annum, Kingston is one of Victoria’s most important manufacturing centres. Areas of specialty include engineering, automotive, plastics and chemicals, food, metal fabrication, printing, aerospace and marine. Kingston also has a vibrant retail base with a mix of bustling shopping strips including Parkdale, Mentone, Mordialloc, Dingley Village and Chelsea, as well as large shopping centres such as Westfield Southland and Direct Factory Outlets.

OUR HISTORY
The City of Kingston was formed in December 1994 following the State Government’s major restructure of Local Government in Victoria. The new city was an amalgamation of all or parts of the former cities of Moorabbin, Mordialloc, Chelsea, Springvale and Oakleigh.
At the time it was regarded as one of the most complex amalgamations in Victoria as it brought together such a diverse range of communities.

In the intervening years the City of Kingston has
developed into a vibrant and dynamic community. A new electoral structure for Kingston was announced in June 2007 and took effect following the Council elections on 29 November 2008. Under the new structure there are three wards - North Ward, Central Ward and South Ward, and three Councillors represent each ward. This brings the total number of Councillors to nine, instead of
the previous structure of seven wards each represented by one Councillor.

Mission

OUR VISION
A diverse, dynamic community where we all share
a sustainable, safe, attractive environment and a
thriving economy.

OUR PURPOSE
To work with the community to protect and enhance
the quality of life for current and future generations.

I can't express how happy we feel tonight after the 2nd home visit for catch up immunisations by the CMH nurses for a newly arrived Syrian refugee family in Kingston. The immunisation nurses Elizabeth Green and her colleagues have been beyond impressive in their care and professionalism. The family of 7 have been so grateful to be able to be vaccinated and start their new life in Australia. Thank you so much.
Thursday, 29 January approx 9:50am had to wait nearly 20 minutes for the customer service to answer. I explained what I wanted to talk about to someone regarding waste collection of palm trees and garden vegetation, I was put through to the area that manages tree removal from properties. Only to be told I had to be transferred back to customer service are and there was likely to be a long wait. I hung up.
Illegal parking is rampant, and no enforcement at all. I then get an e-mail from the enforcement officer to effectively tell me to mind my own business and that they are 'too busy'.
Applying for a town planning permit here is like throwing a message in a bottle into the ocean — except the ocean is a council inbox. Two years later, you might get a reply… and it’ll be from the Department of Vegetation, armed with a poetic essay on why you absolutely cannot touch that half-dead tree strangling your fence.nnThe romance for “saving every single leaf” seems noble until you realise it’s holding the whole neighbourhood hostage. Better homes? Improved amenity? Nope. Just endless delays and hoops to jump through, all in the name of an ideal that sounds green but feels like rot.nnAt this pace, Kingston’s idea of “progress” is making sure nothing changes until the next century.
Lost touch with the community. Huge turnout and petition for amazing local sauna and they went and screwed it up.nnAn awesome place that promotes community, social interaction and mental health and wellness gone because of lack of understanding.
