We love this place. My partner and I couldn't wait for it to reopen after the State lockdowns due to Covid. Well it was worth the wait as we had another great leisurely afternoon lunch with great views from the spacious and light filled restaurant. The staff as always super friendly and helpful with the menu and wine choices. A really good place to order their vegetarian options as full of flavour and combination originality. We had the Crudo Fish, The Asparagus and Burrata, their delicious take on Steak Tartare as shared plate sizes and then the lovely pumpkin and yoghurt salad with a sneaky bowl of chips that comes with yummy ranch dressing. Their concept is "Planted to Plate" and it is so true. All up another really enjoyable dining experience and one that we are counting down to do again.
I went to the restaurant on 3 occasions for lunch and dinner. Food was great, I had enjoyed the pork chops and Brussels sprouts so much that I ordered the same dishes in 2 occasions. The restaurant can get a little too lively when it's full house, definitely not a place for quiet dinner. I enjoyed the ambience of the place and the view during day when I was seated near the window on one of the visits. A good venue to chill out after a visit to the gallery and have a good meal.
Matt Moran’s Woolahra restaurant has a second venture in the Art Gallery of NSW. It is a stunning spot in the top level corner of the gallery with a view of the water. It is light and bright and a casual fine dining spot. From their garden they use plentiful vegetables, fruits and salads to produce healthy, fresh and vibrant dishes. A range of entrees, small plates and larger sharing plates. Start with some oysters or bread and a cocktail to get the good vibes happening. There’s a seasonally changing menu with individual meals including snapper, pork chops, scotch fillet, beer battered fish and chips, and shared dishes of trout or lamb shoulder from the Moran family farm, served with carrot, lentil and mint. We then ordered a few mains and in particular loved the beautiful Barra-in-a-bag with saffron, fennel, sea vegetable It is df and gf. They’ve also got a fab beef tartare. You will need some sides, we opted for the Chiswick Green Salad and Green Beans, but you may prefer toast mushrooms or fries. Fruit inspired desserts, cheese platters and and array of stunning wines and cocktails, you will find this to be a sophisticated dining venue. Make a day of it and visit the Gallery and book yourself in for lunch whilst you’re there.
Great service and fresh food. Views were fantastic. Lamb was flavourful but a little dry. Other dishes were all good. Price is a little high. Overall enjoyed it and would be back again.
Really worth a visit. The room is bright and airy with great views over the harbour and Woolloomooloo. The food is fresh and tasty. The restaurant is one of Matt Moran's; but it is not pretentious or suffy. The service was genuinely tasty. The gallery is accessible for disabled folk.... ring ahead and you can even reserve a little scooter.
Great way to finish a visit to the 2020 Archibald prize with a special lunch at Chiswick at the Gallery. The service was courteous, professional and enjoyable with a little banter with the wait staff. From the moment we were greeted on our arrival to our departure, the service was flawless and the food fresh, neatly plated and delicious. The sweet in season tomatoes accompanying the barramundi were special. Congratulations team Chiswick but looks like we will need to decamp to Woollahra with the pending closure at the Art Gallery. Laura, you must be proud of the team!
Very good fine food, beautiful place and nice staff. A bit pricey but this is the normal average in Sydney for this kind of place. I took the John Dory fish: globally it was very nice, and there was a big portion of the fish. The tiny improvement I could give is adding a sauce to the fish, or cook it a bit less as it was a bit too dry. The only bad point of this place is that it was very noisy.
What a stunning venue! We recently dined with Chiswick for a ladies lunch, a group of 15 women. From the time of booking right through to the day before the staff were a total pleasure to interact with, nothing was a bother. Kerry looked after us for the lunch service, lovely service, food is incredible and there was plenty of it! Loved the experience so much that we just booked for our anniversary lunch.
Eating at Chiswick at the gallery is like the perfect way to experience one of the finest restaurants in Sydney. If you go as a group, try their degustation menu or do what we did, order the two sharing plates. The quantity might look small compared to the price you pay BUT trust me, the flavor will leave you feeling delightfully satisfied. Impeccable service too.
Always great service. Wednesday evening's the restaurant is open until 10pm so a great place to go eat after exploring the beautiful art. The Moran family lamb is cooked to perfection.
