Good food and nice service with a great selection of hot sauces. The burrito was great but the nachos were whatever. The drinks in the fridge are unique and tasty There is some seating options inside but it fills up fast. Best to just get takeaway. Also be sure to watch the prices as nachos, burritos and a drink came to about $30.
Walking one of downtown Newcastle’s back streets, we discovered this place by chance. By then, we were looking for good food, a place to sit and to get out of the rain. Settling on the Julio bowl to have for lunch, it looked a bit plain, but it was flavoursome and filling. Delicious. When I return to Newcastle, I will revisit this place to try out Chiefly de Gallo’s other menu options.
The Google reviews for this are wrong, and mix up this Mexican restaurant with one that looks like new York pastrami I suspect the previous restaurant at this address. This is a Mexican restaurant. It's food is fine. It's not good, but it's not bad. Not really Mexican, it's more like tame tex mex. The burrito was ok. The service is fine, we only had to ask for the blazingly loud music music to be turned down twice, and only needed to ask for cutlery once. The ambiance is awful. They were playing horrible death grunge I presume that's a genre, that's what the music sounded like at least, lots of thrashing of instruments and screaming, the backyard seating is a joke, and the interior is noisy.
I love this place, the menu is so good as there is a great selection of baguettes with an American twist. My favourite is the Tuna Seinfeld, with tuna, mayo, capers and pickled cucumbers, yummy. I have also tried The Newy Deli and The Italian Dreamer. We usually order curbside pick up and they run the order out to your car. Great service.
My photo doesn't do this place justice. The staff love working here, vibe was fantastic and it shows in the food. We had a chipotle bowl and a tonne of tacos. In our chipotle bowl there were some fresh zucchini slightly pickled and lightly cooked. Totally unexpected and really brought the dish to another level. The margaritas were fantastic. Try a couple of dabs of smoked reaper sauce in your tacos! It's not blow your head off hot but definitely a good kick.
Hands down the best sandwich shop I have been to. The staff, especially Jules, are amazing. Just thinking about the food makes me drool in anticipation. I guess Pavlov was right : Seriously, a must visit.
Food was amazing - try their jamacain salsa with the chips. Service was so great! Shout out to the staff handling the WORST Karen in the world while we were there. Made for great conversation but definitely didn't detract from the food or service.
Definitely Mexican that’s for sure! I had tacos and Doritos. Tortillas used for the taco wasn’t very good. The filling rocked my world though pork sword. Curious about the potential for a seasonal secret sauce.
