Gisborne Has been longing for something different, we offer you that, with our fortnightly live music, extravagant gourmet pizzas and classic Italian food made by our Italian Chef of 40 years experience. We also have regular beer and wine specials which you will not find anywhere else in Gisborne.

At Charlie's our number 1 priority is good food and a good atmosphere for our customers, this is our home, and we welcome you into our home.

Since the new owners have taken over the food has become absolutely disgusting! Both my husband and I sent our meals back, my "garlic prawns" looked like the rice was days old and puffed up like it had absorbed chicken stock which later was revealed the rice was soaked in chicken stock! it had no flavour, was served cold, was totally dry with no sauce and looked and tasted like the rice had been microwaved and had been sitting in a container which later I found out by the owner  the container wasn't closed!!! because parts of the rice looked moulded as if straight from a container.  I was however refunded my money and given a small pizza free, the pizza was great.  I would recommend only ordering pizza from Charlies as this seems like the only edible meal they can serve.

Unfortunately I have to give this place at least one star. Incompetent and illiterate, it would seem. Ordered pizzas, rang and confirmed my address and nothing showed up. Rang. First was told there was no record of an order and that this was a problem that happened a lot with their online system. Then told it WAS received but that there was no record of the address change even though I spoke to someone. Then told it was taken to old address. Then told they tried ringing my number but there was no answer. Then told, 'Oh, it was a 4 and not a 5 on the number' then told the person in charge couldn't come and speak to me on the phone. Then told it would be an hour. Finally spoke to someone else who said it would be 30 minutes. This was after 16 minutes on the phone. 30 minutes later and guess what? No pizza! Then I tried to ring them again and then, within a 45 minute time frame, their number was disconnected. Well done, Charlie's. Brilliant. Now $76 out of pocket and son's friends all went home without any dinner.

We were staying in Gisborne for a few day's and decided to go out for dinner on Saturday night. We found Charlie's Italian Restaurant. I felt like Pizza and so my wife and I ordered a large capricciosa. It was the best pizza I have had in over 30 years, no exaggeration. The pizza's you get everywhere these days are flavourless, and are like thin shoe soles and the topping if any just falls off into a pile of slop.  Charlie's pizzas have real 100% mozzarella, the topping was generous and tasty. The base was not too thin, and not too thick. If you are in Gisborne and feel like Pizza or anything on their menu, I highly recommend Charlie's.

I am very sad to let you know I will not be coming yo your restaurant again, there are a few reasons for my change of heart.  One reason, is that my favourite waitress doesn't work there anymore!! she was so sweet, and had great service.  Also, another reason that I'm not visiting your restaurant again is poor quality of service and food! My chicken parma wasn't cooked properly! and as soon as we walking into the facility I waited for about 10 minutes to be served and taken to my table! this is DISGARCEFUL! Never again!!  these are the reasons for my low rating, please take my advice and choose a different restaurant!

For some reason their staff think it's acceptable to serve completely burnt pizza. Care factor ZERO! Absolutely no attention to detail. The cheese on top was completely black as was the bottom. Not coming back. Why can't we get a decent Pizza place in Gisborne?

This is the most SHOCKING restaurant my friends and I have ever been to. All of our food took at least 1 hour or more to come to our tables. One of the chicken parmas where pink and another was completely over cooked. The pizza was disgusting and one of the employees dropped it on the floor. Multiple plates of food that weren’t ours where bought out. After eating the food we paid and when we where about to leave one of the employees was accusing us of not paying. NEVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT.

Fantastic Service, friendly staff, new owner Charlie goes out of his way to make you happy, best Pizza I've had in a long time. Can't wait to try the Lamb Shanks they look delicious. We will definetly be coming back.

Since depetros has been gone the last couple of months we have tryed Charlie's and the first night was very disappointing the chef and pizza boy was screaming at eachother! Not nice to hear when your trying to have a nice meal! we went back for the second time to see if anything has changed clearly it hasn't the guy at the front who I think might be the manger was so rude and when we told him about our complaint he tryed to start a argument with my wife never going back again HORRIBLE !!! HORRIBLE!! Do not recommend !!! this place is not the same anymore wish depetros was back !

Quick service & food was on the table very fast for what seemed like a semi busy night, but we didnt walk out raving about the food itself. I couldnt finish my meal of the calamari salad.  Great place for the family who has kids & just wants a quick meal away from home. I'd rather pay the few dollars extra for a better quality meal

Not happy..... never get salad with our chips when the menu especially says "Our choice of Vegetables OR chips & SALAD served with a meal" Did it to us 4 times so never going back!! Sorry charlie, food was nice. But yous seem to not satisfy the people that order take away......
