Champ Kitchen & Bar

About

A little piece of independence on the Cultural Forecourt. Locally owned & operated, champ kitchen & bar celebrates independent producers and suppliers.

Story

A little piece of independence on the Cultural Forecourt just minutes from QPAC and the Convention Centre. There’s not much happening in our town that won’t place you within cooee of champ – enjoying a day at the gallery, taking in the city sights, a trip to the theatre or graduation. And to match the occasion, some of our favourite indulgences …

It starts with the coffee – brisbane’s own merlo. Merlo has been our coffee of choice since 1997 at Tongue and Groove Cafe in West End. During our gunshop cafe days, currently at Anouk cafe and now at champ, we continue to love the robust flavour and you just can’t miss the early morning kick of merlo.

Then there’s burleigh brewing / stone & wood / feral and more. Great brews made with passion. Burleigh’s 28 pale is always on tap and always gets the nod of approval. My Wife's Bitter is this season’s special – it blends genuine English malt, hops and yeast.

Cocktails speak for themselves. Stand out work from our barman, Jake Williams who always favours Australia’s award winning spirits 666 / west winds / lark. Jake’s Buttered Espresso martini is the pick this Autumn with butter vodka, double drip coffee liqueur, vanilla and fresh espresso shaken hard. Our 666 / double drippa take on the espresso martini warrants a mention. Perfect end to a meal.

Wines we’re currently loving are all sourced from Mornington Peninsula with a common thread of Brisbane wine makers!. Judy Gifford of Darling Park winery is an ongoing favourite who knows her fruit and soil intimately. We have just discovered Polperro wines, robust and clever just like winemaker Sam who works with both local and import grapes.

The design of the room was inspired by the transparent architecture of our ABC upstairs. Exposed ducting, polished concrete and a truly open plan kitchen and bar are softened by the embrace of a recycled West End Queenslander repurposed after the 2011 floods. Our ceiling installation was created from old fencing wire found on the family property at the top of the Brisbane River and crafted by family friend John Duncombe.

We hope you enjoy the visit.

Nice food and staff working hard even sometimes under staff, but thanks Cham!
Good coffee and snacks. Outdoor terrace seating overlooking Southbank or indoors. Friendly and efficient staff. This a popular post Parkrun or bike ride option. If you feel up to it, siting on the lawn in front is also an option.
Ordered mushroom risotto which tasted good and fresh! Customer service is on par. Nice vibe and lovely view of the wheel. Thank you very much!
Wasted 50 min waiting for basic food. Felt sorry for waitstaff having to deal with so many upset customers who left tired of waiting. Charged 4.50 for a warm can of drink. Put more staff on in the kitchen
Appalling slow service, no feed back on delay
Food was great, long wait though up to 45 minutes for food. We were alerted to this when sitting down.
Food good. Service slow.
