A neighborhood cafe in the heart of town offering great coffee, fresh vege and local food, artisan breads and friendly people.

Story

Cafe Royale is in the Square Edge Arts Centre, Palmerston North. We make delicious food from scratch using fresh local and organic ingredients. We have plenty of vegan and vegetarian dishes, mighty breakfasts, and tasty cakes. We make all our own breads and we get our coffee from awesome local micro-roaster, Cowshed Coffee.

Have visited Café Royale many times and it is really a favorite of ours. Really refreshing to find a menu with a bit more variety than usually eggs bene etc in Palmerston North. Though I haven't had a beer here as we are usually here for brunch the range of craft beer available is also great to see. While some recent review sight poor service we have never had a bad experience

Unfortunately I used to love this place and visited often but after today I will never be going back. The service is pretty slack as they take their sweet time to serve you at the counter. The guy (he may be the manager - the man in the photos on google) was so rude. I ordered a coffee to have there and had two others with me who were eating food from another place (not ideal, I know) but when we were approached by this man to put our food away he did so in the worst possible way he could have. He said “not cool, bringing food into another cafe is the rudest thing you can ever do.”. I then said sorry and put the food away even though I was seriously disappointed with the way I was treated as a customer - there are much more polite ways of doing what he did. He then brought my coffee over in a take-away cup saying “I think it’s best that this is take-away”. Shockingly bad, especially for someone who’s been working there for a long time. He then walked off and dropped some dishes that smashed, I guess karma’s a bi**h huh.

This is definately one of the best locations for a cafe and the coffee and food were fine...but...unfortunately the service let itself down by not being attentive enough. Many customers on our last visit were left unattended and in some cases stranded. It was counter service only. Simple things like not bringing water or clearing tables due to low or untrained staff. Grrrrrr. 😠

Fantastic menu options! I regularly pop in for a quick lunch with friends and clients - everyone from your regular herbivore to full vegan or gluten free diets are catered for. Excellent coffee and free wi-fi, with any always changing exhibition right next door. Very relaxed and never packed - highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere. Stopped for a coffee and slice this was enjoyed by us.
