Disorganised and incompetent. Spent hundreds$$ on a service only to have the bike retuned in an unsafe condition.

Athol is a really helpful, old fashioned, customer service focused owners who is always helpful and tries hard to find that elusive part. Highly recommended.

DO NOT GO TO THIS BIKE SHOP! I purchased a set of race wheels from this store after seeing them advertised online on Bike Exchange for $1450 which was reasonable compared to other stores around. When I arrived I was very surprised to see the messy state of the shop and the bicycle maintenance area. I didn’t turn away because I had made a long drive and knew the wheels would be worth it. They seemed very happy to take my money and soon I was off with my new wheels in hand. One week later I went to have the wheels fitted to my bike at my favourite local bike shop in Ringwood. This is the same shop I bought my current bike from and the staff there are extremely helpful and friendly. When they went to fit the new wheels they noticed rough running and that something was not right with the bearings in the front wheel. They explained to me what the issue was and showed me a comparison to the exact same wheelset that they had in on another bike. The difference was noticeable straight away between my front wheel from Brighton Cycles and the front wheel they had on the bike in their shop in Ringwood. I found this quite surprising for Zipp Wheels and the high quality that they are known for. It was obvious that there was a fault in the front wheel. So I phoned up Brighton Cycles to let them know I wanted to bring the wheels back in for them to have a look at and this was when all of the troubles started. I went back to Brighton with my brand new wheels that hadn’t even been on a bike yet. I was greeted with very poor customer service and after explaining to the very disinterested shop owner (Athol) what the issue was he gave the wheel a quick spin and immediately said nothing was wrong. I was very annoyed at this and wanted to discuss the issue further with him. After being ignored for 35 minutes while he chatted to his friends that came into the shop to talk about their latest overseas cycling adventure, he eventually found time to speak to me again. I explained to him more what my local bike shop in Ringwood had said, but he showed absolutely no interest. Upon asking if he wanted to speak to the mechanic at my local bike shop for clarification of the issue he replied “There’s no point, it’s just another mechanic.” As a hard working university student, $1450 was a lot of money for me and I didn’t want to spend it on a clearly faulty wheel. He kept shutting down everything I tried to tell him and his solution was for me to go and ride on them because the problem would fix itself. Yeah Right! At this point I just left the shop and went down and spoke to my local bike shop in Ringwood. They phoned Echelon Sports, who are the importers of Zipp Wheels in Australia and arranged, at no cost to me, for the wheels to be sent over to them and inspected. I got my wheels back two weeks ago and both of the bearings in my front wheel were replaced free of charge as they were faulty from the factory. This is what my local bike shop had been saying all along and it is obvious that Brighton Cycles had no interest in helping me at all. If there was an option for zero stars for this review I would have chosen that, but unfortunately there isn’t. Brighton Cycles – Five stars for taking your money, zero stars for customer service. STAY AWAY!!
