One of New Zealands largest and oldest Independent Bookshops. Second Hand section too.

Story

With an "oldy-worldy" ambience our customers rely on us to stock the old classics as well as contemporary literary fiction and non-fiction, Maori books and the very best childrens books too. All the staff are huge readers and very knowledgeable. We stock books in most genres and keep the shop well-stocked all year round. There is a gorgeous cafe upstairs. Muirs Bookshop is a favourite with holiday makers to our sunny piece of paradise.

Since the food is just so-so, it's better to come here to enjoy the good coffee and beautiful atmosphere. The bookshop downstairs is fantastic.

The only thing we liked about this cafe was the seating area in balcony. Staff was unfriendly and customer service was terrible. None of the staff acknowledged us while we were waiting at the counter. If you smile at them, they just ignore you. When I said 'hi' to the girl at the counter, she replied by saying "I'm waiting on a customer's payment". Plus, this place provides limited cabinet food only, do not consider it if you are after a proper meal.

The place is beautiful, but the service is terrible. The people in the counter completely ignored us. There's no much variety and some things look old

Great café above a bookshop with a large balcony and spacious interior with a quaint high, wooden celling. It's nice to sit on the balcony and observe what's going on in the street.
