Not enough staff on… Saturday night and Sunday morning. Saturday night… no one at the Service Desk or even out the back to come out to the desk. Sunday morning… no one available to do a price check when the incorrect price rang up at the self-service checkout. As a staff member I would not feel safe working with this type of skeleton staffing level.
The security guard in the makeup section was very rude to me today. He followed me around the whole beauty section and gave me dirty looks, then rudely told me I had to pay at the checkout in the beauty section although there was a sign on the desk saying to go to the main checkout. When leaving the store he made me take out every item in my bag he saw me pay for my stuff and accused me of stealing my work uniform… didn't even do anything to provoke this so not sure why he was accusing me.
Updated 28/2nnI’m so relieved to see that this is a common reoccurrence that this shop is constantly getting reviews of people being falsely accused of shoplifting, despite being watched purchasing their items. This happened to me. See the original review below. I was hugely disappointed in the brand of big w having been a loyal customer for almost 2 decades. This store seriously needs to address the approach of suspicion towards customers and handle these issues discretely and not cause customers like myself complete distress. I actually returned my purchase for a full refund, and shopped elsewhere. Honestly I felt a little threatened being surrounded by so many “security” guards. It’s not a good look for a company brand to have these issues constantly bought up yet nothing is done and the issues keep reoccurring and more reviews and complaints keep surfacing. I hope more people like myself point this problem out again in the future so customers can feel safe and welcome in their own store.nnI live in south east Melbourne, so I go to the Eastland store and I have NEVER experienced this. Actually I’ve never experienced this in any store in my life. It left me with a bad impression of Ballarat as a whole, just this big w store. I will NEVER return to this store ever and I hope other people follow and not return either unless they want to be arrested for making a full purchase with receipts and proof of purchase.nWhat a joke. Accused of theft at the door, had my digital receipt and showed at the door.nReceived no apology, felt extremely embarrassed and took my newly purchased pants to get a refund and went to target and best and less. Upon leaving after refund, the person at the door said they would pray for me. Like why would you bring religion into a situation you clearly don’t understand how to handle?nStaff could’ve handled this situation better. Wouldn’t give 1 star because of this situation that could’ve been avoided if they did their job properly. I was clearly not welcome in this shop. I’m not from the area, being from South east Melbourne, definitely won’t be returning to Big W Ballarat.

My partner purchased 3 small ordamental items. She realised they were damaged when she went to use them. We took them back to get a refund and was basically accused of stealing them because we didn't have a receipt. The staff then spent the next half an hour arguing with us. Very poor service from a team that otherwise have provided good service.
