Are you East or West? We were definitely West and made our way to the posh and lavish salon in the democratic side. We felt right at home with our cocktails, cheese platter, pretzels and fries sitting underneath the chandeliers. No dingy dark bunkers for us thanks! We enjoyed our experience but thought the cocktails should be renamed to a more German theme. Too many Russians for a German themed bar!
A fun hidden themed bar in Melbourne! You can choose to sit in East or West Germany - both sides are great! We loved the themed cocktails, all the drinks we tried were fantastic Definitely worth a visit if you are around in Melbourne.
The atmosphere is really nice. Communism or capitalism? The drinks and decor are interesting. There’s no actual sign outside. You enter through the door way and go up the stairs, you’ll need to wait for someone to let you in. Everything was great minus the slow service.
AMAZING what a great surprise this was! we were just bar hopping around on a Monday night, not expecting much, only to be floored by this impressive spot. It was a Berlin themed bar with one side decorated in capitalism and the other decorated in communism. But an aesthetic can only get you so far, so what elevated it above other themed bars? the drinks and the music! the cocktails were presented on a map to help you decide if you wanted something sweet, sour etc. And they were all well presented and delicious! While the music was all from 1989 and back, so we spent the night vibing to banger track after banger track. I cannot recommend this bar enough, go go go!!!
One of the best kept not so secret place in Melbourne. The devour is the first thing that hits you and takes you back in time to Germany. East or West now that's upto you. The drinks menu was great with a lot of my favorite German beers. The cocktail menu was a creative spin you have to see it to enjoy it. Unfortunately this visit we didn't have anything to eat but the food menu looked great too. We will be visiting the place again very soon and highly recommend the place too.
A lovely hidden bar within central Melbourne and gives a taste of West and East Berlin. Where West has a chique look and East having a more rundown look. The menu is the same on both sides. The cocktails were quite nice and delicious, but pricey. Just as a heads-up. Other than that, I recommend trying this place out!
East or West? Capitalism vs communism? What wins? Who cares ... it's all about the alcohol AND this place did not disappoint! Went with friends and waited 15 mins to get in. The stairs were just plain and not much to look at. As you enter the bar, you get transported to an old school posh bar with chandeliers and dim lights. I had an old fashioned cocktail and it was strong and thoroughly enjoyable! Sipped it and enjoyed the ambience with my amazing friends. For nibbles, we had cheese plate, pommel frittes and pretzels. Was a great accompaniment to the cocktails. Have to say I definitely enjoyed the pretzels more than I thought I would
@berlinbarmelbourne CBD Space Monkeys: tequila, rum, infused mango, Cointreau, lime, agave, chilli Vladimir Komarov: gin infused coffee & nutmeg, Campari, antica, white chocolate foam Judith Resnik: maraschino, gin, peach soju, honey, yuzu Laika: gin infused peppercorn, vanilla, falernum, yuzu, egg white Berlin Bar is a hidden cocktail bar, located in Melbournes CBD which opened back in 2009. The space is split into two. You will enter into capitalist West Berlin, a luxurious speakeasy style area with comfortable booths oozing opulence. Cross the wall into the Soviet side of East Berlin, where there is no extravagance. The room is dark and full of Communist propaganda. The cocktail menu is well thought out and you can easily find something suited to your tastes by following the map or asking their friendly staff. Completely creative, you will push yourself out of your comfort zone and probably order something you would have never tried before. My favourite pick was the Space Monkeys, it was spicy, fresh and sour. Kinda like a mango chilli margarita. The Judith Resnik was fruity, fresh and sour, I love that the honey really comes through. The Vladimir Komarov was very unique and strong, with bitter, dark and sweet notes. The only one we didn’t love was the Laika, which we found a bit bland with no prominent flavours. There is also a small snack menu available, which I might try on our next visit. Definitely one to check out next time you’re in the city! 4.7/5 $$
Will you go for capitalism or communism? The staff were super sweet and the decor was amazing. The lights were super interesting and the menu was well designed visually to suit the German theme. Drinks were cold, complex and served fast. Nice chill bar with a dodgy looking entrance adding to the vibe. Rock n roll was played with Top Gun on the screen which was pretty sick. This is my second time going and I will be going again.
Funky bar that is a bit hidden up a stairwell. We were in the communism side, the themed decor and menu were great. Our cocktails were delish and the music was excellent.
