Have been working at QUT GP for 3 years and Merlo's coffee used to be one of the best on campus. But for the last 1-2 years their coffee become pretty bad, taste watery and/or sour most of the time. Their customer service also become worse as they often make me feel unwelcomed, get my name wrong and slow wait at least 10mins or more to get my order despite they have so many staffs working there. I noticed they have a lot of new young staffs that seems to have not gone through proper training. Today I went there to order a sourdough toast for my breakfast, which is the only thing that I liked and I do that occasionally order coffee somewhere else then come to Merlo for toast. And after waiting for 15mins, I got myself a burned toast see attached photo. I didn't find out until I brought it back to my office, and I just didn't bother to go back there to wait 15 mins for an exchange. Such a shame that you guys can't even train your stuff to make a proper toast and do not serve a burned toast! Merlo QUT is on my blacklist now. Stay away for good.
The team here are great. There are always so many people ordering, but they smash through it quickly and I’ve always found them to be pleasant even when they are under the pump. The store manager always seems to be helping which you don’t often see from management in other establishments. The breakfast paninis are also amazing.

The service I received today was the best I’ve had so far this year, with a rough start to the morning I was welcomed by Sabine. Even though they are busy it’s also the shortest time I’ve had to wait with 15+ people waiting, whoever is managing today is doing a great job. And the bean of the month is pretty good too!
Since Teagan and most of her crew left Taylor, Ella and a couple of others, the customer service is extremely poor. Teagan was all about keeping the customers happy, and she always did in my personal experience. I've been working at QUT for many years, and the last 5-6 weeks is the worst I've experienced. I regularly ordered coffee and toast every day, but have stopped going there altogether since I have been served 2 lots of burnt toast that I doubt the person who made it would eat, and the wait for coffee is ridiculous 10-20 minutes. I've never waited so long for coffee in my life, and I've been to far busier coffee shops with fewer staff. There is too much chit chat going on between the staff members instead of focusing on getting the orders out. The new staff who have joined the QUT Merlo have really bad attitudes. I went there this morning and waited nearly 20 minutes for my order and when I dared follow up on my order was told that porridge takes much longer than anything else. My days of supporting Merlo's is over. Wherever Teagan is now, they are very lucky to have her. Please get the new staff some proper training on how to deal respectfully with customers and to hurry up. Give customers a free coffee voucher if they've waited too long or are clearly unhappy. That's what Teagan used to do, and it worked.

One of the best coffee hub at QUT. Merlo is not just a coffee place but it's an emotion now for students in QUT. No day is complete without merlo coffee. Love it. Love it. Love it. They have good option for vegetarians as well: Best one is: Mushroom panini sandwich. 2nd best: Salad sandwich. White chocolate cupcake is a must try.

Don't get me wrong. Coffee and food is good, no problems there. But the customer service, especially from the shift manager, was appalling. Had a membership card from a university society club, which is supposed to give a free upsize to your drink. Showed it to the server, who called her manager over. From the get-go the manager was snippy and plain rude without provocation. Refused to accept or scan my card, even though they accepted it last week, and today had just seperately served two friends who used the card successfully. I decided to drop the issue as to not hold up the other people in line. Employees proceeded to get my order wrong and continued to be rude and condescending. A few hours later, me and my classmates returned to grab lunch. My friend showed the card and was met by the same disagreements although noticeably less rude when dealing with a female customer. The friend showed the instagram post proving that the card was an updated version of an old card that they recognised a point that I had tried explaining earlier. They finally accepted the card and served us. All in all, the shift manager on 24/03/22, need to learn how to properly speak to customers, and lose the unjust attitude that they showed today. I don't hold anything against the staff or the company, but changes need to be made.
