My 100 y.o father recently passed away at BRHS after a short stay in palliative care. I would like to thank the nurses and doctors that attended to him for your care and compassion. The support and communication towards the family from all of the staff was always thorough and caring. He has had a few stays at BRHS over the years and we have always found the same level of care everytime. THANK YOU
Don't give birth at this hospital. The maternity ward has a lot left to be desired. It is completely understaffed and some are incredibly rude. If you can go to Sale, do it.
I have never known so many people come out of a hospital to then need life saving help in other facilities. A full blown look into the practices needs to be done here. Scary stuff.
Doctors r super rude and unprofessional. No care in the world for chronic condition. and if they don’t agree with u they threaten you with “we are going to call the police on you”.
My Dad recently passed away in the palliative care part of the Bairnsdale hospital... The nurses were ABSOLUTELY lovely... We could not fault. However, we know it's a 'public hospital', BUT the room my dear Dad was in reminded us of a jail cell... ..We watched as Dad tried to look out of the window during some of his last moments... The windows were absolutely disgustingly dirty and All he had to look out on was a dirty old rooftop. SURELY it would not take much to create some warmth in these rooms?... To make them not such a 'cold' & depressing feel?!... Even a bit of a roof top garden... Doesn't need to be much... Even planter boxes outside each window..Some artificial palms or plants in a corner of the room, a nice painting... Just something to make the room more inviting and a nice place for that 'final' rest would be nice for both the visitors and patient....
Having just read some of the adverse reviews about Bairnsdale Regional Health Service I feel prompted to put my review in. My husband had a couple of emergency admissions to Casualty last year. I am a retired nurse who worked at this facility for many many years. I have nothing but praise for the efficient, caring staff in the casualty department before he was airlifted to Melbourne hospitals. Thankfully he survived two major operations, and unfortunately for him is now an inpatient due to another problem. I say unfortunate not because I am worried about his care, just that he doesn’t like being in hospital no matter where it is. To address the complaints about nursing care, please don’t think going further towards Melbourne will give you better care. My husband received pressure sores on each heel from his time in The Alfred hospital. One of which is still having treatment five months later. And this was after constantly telling staff his heels were sore. I don’t know what has happened to nursing care, I am old school, hospital trained and it seems the patient comfort aspect is not as important as the documentation. As patients you have a voice, so if there is a problem ask your nurse, sometimes a reminder is all that is necessary. I still feel we are very lucky to have BRHS and the staff that work there.
Over the past few months I have been in and out of several hospitals , both regionally and in the city and as both a private patient and a public patient. I would like to say that the Bairnsdale hospital is definitely the best including all members of staff and areas of work. The hospital has a cleaning service second to none where everything is cleaned and sanitised every day. The cleaning staff were delightful and went out of their way to assist in any way whilst still being professional. The meals were much better than those that I had been given at the private hospital I was in. Also a cooked breakfast every morning. Unheard of in a public hospital. And when I received it, it was hot including the toast. The meal staff including the morning, afternoon and supper staff were really lovely and friendly. The supper lady knew I loved my jelly and she would go out of her way to get me two jelly’s every night. The nursing staff were amazing and they took care to give care and I felt well looked after at all times. I never had to wait long to have my buzzer answeredless than a minute and they all were so lovely and always answered my incessant questions. They were truly angels of care. The doctors were prepared to listen as they said that I knew my own body better than they did. I felt very confident in talking to them. They even rang me after my discharge to tell me that my blood results had shown something amiss and that they would arrange for a script to be filled out for me to pick up. On another instance a lovely lady doctor came to visit me on a Sunday afternoon to tell me that I needed a iron infusion. I had to wait for oxygen to arrive before being discharged and the oxygen couldn’t be delivered for a few days. The hospital was happy for me to stay until it arrived. The pharmacy was ever so helpful and made sure that I understood everything she was trying to explain. She even had all my medications done up the day before so I wouldn’t have to wait for hours. Thank you for that. Overall it was the best hospitalisation I have ever experienced. Thank you one and all at the Bairnsdale hospital. You are all ever so amazing. You all deserve five out of five stars. You made me well and spoilt me in the process. I can’t thank you all enough for how you cared for me. Regards Beverley Knowles
My wife suffered a fall whilst on holidays at Lakes Entrance. She hurt her knees in this accident. I rushed her to Bairnsdale Hospital and she was admitted for her injuries to be investigated. I would like to thank the administration, triage nurses , other nurses , doctors and other support staff in this hospital for their great service and friendliness that they gave to us in this difficult time. A very impressive effort from all there. It left us with fond and pleasant memories of their medical service that they provided to us.
I recently had surgery at BRHS and spent 2 days and nights,I want to express my gratitude and appreciation, from my first contact with different members of Staff, Nurses and Doctors, everyone was pleasant, helpful and very clear in explaining procedures and what I needed to do. I cannot praise you all highly enough. My sincere thanks.
