Great spot if you get a day like we had. Tide in, smooth water and sun out - it was ideal for our picnic. The Park is very well maintained and we enjoyed wandering around the settlers homestead. If you haven't been it's worth the trip.
Felt like our own little private beach paradise. Being that it's a bit of the beaten track. Not as many shady places to sit so would be good to take an umbrella or something to sit under and sit on. The water was nice - sheltered and shallow so would be good to just swim or float.
Remote NZ beauty - 100% worth the trip! Disabilty access to toilets, BBQ area, picnic tables, huge grassy space... Beach access via steps or a steep paved path which becomes grass track. NO BINS - please bring rubbish bags and keep this place clean and stunning
Super nice place to spend a whole day or stay over nights at camping ground here. Safe, peace and quiet. There is toilets and drink water station facilities. All keeping tydy and functionable.
Stunning park with lots of track walks for all. Lots of space for people to camp. Right against the beautiful beachfront there is alot you can do here. The historic Brookhaven is a must see for you to get a feel of the area and it's early settlers- We don't get this everywhere in NZ. Recommend for a picnic, walk, run, bikeride, or day out on the grass or at the beach. I haven't seen any park like this before. It is so open and there are lots of different kinds of scenery- You will not get bored.
Awhitu Regional Park is another of the well maintained Auckland Regional Parks that make great day trips. It's family friendly with picnic areas, walks of varying length, history on the local settlers, and white sand beaches. There's even a winery right next door that does tastings - Awhitu Wines. A 30 minute drive away is the Manukau Heads lighthouse which is also worth visiting.
A secluded family friendly beach with lovely views. The beach is picturesque and stays shallow for quite a long way out so very safe for younger kids. There are a couple of nice walks which work their way up to a lookout which allows for some great pics. The kids and most adults will love the pond that is riddled with a bed of eels. The smallest hint of food will have them chomping for more.
Fantastic place to stay. Good shelter in a lot of the camp. Great for the kids to have a bit of an explore of the rock pools and back at low tide plus safe swimming. Clean facilities and an understanding ranger when I put a peg through one of the drinking water hoses.
What a great experience. Such a beautiful scene. We went with baby, so did not attempt the walk ways. We walked accross the beach during low tide and went up to the museum. Will definitely head back once baby is a bit older to complete the routes.
Truly beautiful. Long sandy beaches. We have been going there for quite a number of years. This year they are signs of erosion on the seawall below the camping grounds. Interesting wetlands. Huge pohutukawa trees to sit under and provide shelter from the sun. Extensive grassed areas to picnic or play some beach cricket. Walking trails too. Never been too busy when I have been there. You can wade out to the island at low tide but don't be caught- someone drowned there trying to get back on a rising tide just this summer.
