Story

Auckland Town Hall is a prominent civic landmark of neo-Baroque style. Taking pride of place on Queen Street in Auckland’s CBD, it is known both for it’s original and ongoing use for administrative functions for Council as well as its famed Great Hall and Concert Chamber. Auckland Town Hall has been at the centre of the city’s political and cultural life since its opening, and over the years has hosted countless significant events and figures. Attractive stained-glass windows, ornate plasterwork and spectacular chandeliers combine to make this a beautiful venue.

I first saw the Town Hall when I arrived in Auckland, and later I had the chance to see it more closely during my time in the city.nnThe building already stands out from the outside, with its classic architecture that contrasts with all the modern things around it. But the most beautiful part is definitely inside.nnThe main hall, used for concerts, is a stunning space. It looks like something from a movie, and it has a huge, historic organ that is still preserved. It’s one of those instruments that impress you just by looking at it.nnI loved that many original details are still there: the tiles, the stained glass windows, the stair railings, the wooden floors — all well preserved and in good condition. You can tell they really care about the history of the place.nnIt’s a building with a strong presence in the city, a local landmark and the site of historic events, like the visit of The Beatles in 1964 and even The Rolling Stones in 1965.nIt’s worth going in if you’re in the city center, even just for a short visit. It’s not always open to the public, but there are often events and concerts. I recommend it. It’s a piece of Auckland’s history.
Our choir had a wonderful experience performing at the Auckland Town Hall! The venue is beautiful, with amazing acoustics and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were helpful, and the hall’s historic charm made our performance even more special.
Came here to see Boney M. Never been here before, great smaller venue with great acoustics. Lovely old building with ornate ceiling as well as large organ at the front. Main area is standing only with small balcony around the edge
A beautiful historic building that hosts small to medium shows, plays and live music and seminars.nBuilding is very old and has the British architecture feeling with Maori. Totally loved it. It is owned and maintained by Auckland Council
Great venue for live music. Acoustics are good. Has a massive organ. Pic seats carefully as for some you can't see the whole stage.
