Story

Alpha Restaurant is synonymous with Greek generosity and hospitality. The menu, by acclaimed chef Peter Conistis, nods to both traditional and contemporary Greek cooking. In his interpretations of time-honoured recipes, Conistis utilises the best local ingredients with many dishes cooked in the wood-fired oven (imported from Greece), on the rotisserie or over the charcoal grill.

Signature dishes include Conistis’ ever popular Moussaka of eggplant with seared scallops and Greek spiced slow roasted lamb shoulder.
The restaurant occupies an historic Victorian building in the heart of the CBD, also home to the Hellenic Club, which has long been a meeting place and centre of Greek culture for migrants, shopkeepers and businesses.

Designed by DS17’s Paul Papadopoulos, Alpha’s dining room nods to the Greek islands with whitewashed walls, earthy tones, lamps resembling fishing nets and a sandstone wall engraved with letters of the Greek alphabet. Our private room on the lower ground floor is an ideal place for elegant celebrations and feasts.

Alpha Foodstore and Café is situated alongside the restaurant and sells Greek artisanal products such as wild herb honeys, jams, traditional pasta and regional olive oils. Our café is open all day. It’s the place for a fix of traditional Greek coffee, artisan tea, and Greek inspired pastries such as halva brownie and our famous baklava muffin.

I had low expectations given the prime location, but I could not have been more wrong. The food was great, the service friendly and professional and of course the view amazing. The lamb shoulder is a must and we loved the prawn saganaki. Portion size is big so we were very full. Will def be back when they return to Castlereagh Street.
Great pop-up version of original restaurant. Beautiful Greek food with lots of variety on the menu. Great location on the harbour.
The food was fantastic, however, the wait staff for our table was not very efficient. Overall location, food and restaurant as a whole were great.
I wasn't impressed, not like the restaurant, found the fish overcooked and over seasoned. Cocktails also on the sweet side. Passable, and made nicer with the view. Wouldn't recommend I'm afraid!
This is THAT restaurant that you finally find at the end of your vacation trip and are upset you didn't find it sooner. Service was great, drinks delicious, and food even better.
Went here for an anniversary lunch & loved it. Amazing ambience & food. The Saganaki cheese with honey was the highlight!
One of the best meals I've ever had, with an incomparable view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Thank you friendly and professional waitstaff for an excellent experience!
