Had to wait awhile but bought this amazing Limited Edition Gary Clark Jr. Blak & Blu Casino Guitar from the guys at Allans Billy Hyde and I couldn’t be happier. It looks stunning and sounds great too.
Been here a couple of times within three months to try out their acoustic guitars until I'm finally ready to buy one. They have cheaper prices compared to other Melbourne guitar stores based on the 'research' that I've carried out before making the purchase, IMO. Another plus is they also carry a huge range of guitar brands. Every time I come in, someone is willing to help that is if you ask for help, otherwise they'd just let you roam around. Special shout-out to Dan who has been incredibly helpful and informative from the moment we spoke over phone to reserve the guitar Taylor GS Mini Mahogany until I got in the store and purchased it. He even threw in a couple of freebies/deal to compensate some cosmetic flaws evident on the guitar e.g. scratches which definitely made the whole process of purchasing better. Will definitely recommend to anyone looking to purchase their gears within reasonable price range.
I was in the market for a lighter weight electric guitar, These guys had the Gibson Firebird T series at a very competitive price. I dealt with a salesperson called 'Dan' and found the experience really good. He lined me up with the Firebird and an LP to compare and gave me enough space and time to weigh up my decision. I would be happy to deal with him again as I felt he was genuine, non pretentious, and focused on my best interests during the transaction. The only negatives I found was the store seems to be always busy, so you have to wait for assistance... and the location means there is limited affordable parking nearby, so you have to lug your purchases around till you get to where you parked.
Great service! My son was after a acoustic guitar for his tour next year. He's been saving for a while and the staff at Allan's were just super. We walked out with taylor and couldn't be happier.
Upstairs piano room staff were lovely, let us play without feeling judged. Downstairs, however, staff belittled us in one instance and closely watched us as we tried out instruments and we were eventually told to leave the store. I don't think it's right to kick people out just because we clearly weren't going to make a purchase. Bad service overall.
If you're looking for Gibsons and Epiphones, then this is the place. My experience is that the guitars are the reason I visit, unfortunately the staff interaction some of them is not great and is the reason I want to leave. To be honest, it feels similar to my experience with used car salesmen. Street price is not a sale. I hope they are aware that musicians live in a global community and we are shoppers as well, who know the price value of the instruments we are interested in. Anywho... just be aware of this and know your stuff. They also have drums, piano, woodwinds, violins. Hope this helps.
Bought a music book sign said 25% off. Paid by card & walked out then realised was charged full price. Went back & salesman said 'you should have told me it was discounted' I assumed as he was the one that worked there he should know this! Was a real chore for him to give me money back. Made some light-hearted banter with no response. Poor customer service - rude & ill-informed.
Awesome, exceptional level of service! Clint helped me pick up the perfect instrument for what I had in mind. He was very attentive, listening and trying to help me out, to find best instrument for the role as he could. And he never tried to push for higher price item, completely transparent about advantages of competition. Visit the Allan music and say hi to Clint You'll love it.
Thee isn't an option for 0 stars. 1. I bought a piano from them a few years ago. It was horrible. I rang to get some help afterwards and no one would help me. 2. I teach and rang them one day to ask if they had a piece that I needed for a student. They took my details and never called me back. 3. I was shopping for another piano and went back there to see what they had. It was a Sunday morning and I asked politely at the service desk if I could try the pianos, a young man asked me "are you actually going to buy a piano?" Not after that interaction I wasn't. Why did I even bother?
Although the store had great quality instruments and good variety, I could not get passed the incredibly rude staff. As a musician myself, and a potential customer, I was bewildered by the pushy and gruff attitude shown by the workers downstairs. After quietly playing gentle music for not even 20 minutes, my friends and I were told to leave the store. Furthermore, after asking a different staff member if they were in need of a pianist to help advertise the store's products, I was given an abrupt 'no!' After this I willingly left the store, unimpressed and hesitant to return. This is very upsetting to me as one of the largest music stores in Melbourne has such rude aggressive attitude staff members. I suggest all musos looking for a good music store should stick to their local area. At least there you won't be intimidated or even fearful of playing their instruments. I mean it's a MUSIC store for gods sake.
