After reading April Smith review on this orthodontist, was shocked to know Van Vuuren is still pulling the same old routine he was doing over 10 years earlier. Had us sign up, and hand over a lot of money to have teeth straighten, only to find out weeks later - he wasn't local and better still he wasn't coming back to the local dentist he used to sell his trade. Has a major superiority complex - poor bedside manner, always making sharp insulting jokes just to make him feel even more superior over his PAYING patients. Sure, many will have positive reviews on Van Vurren, and not saying he is all bad. Just his methods are poor and not always upfront. Lastly, overpriced compared to many Orthodontist.

Wasn't informed at all that this Orthadontist wasn't available locally (other than once a fortnight)...until my daughter first got her braces put on, for the next 6 weeks we had terrible trouble with the brackets often coming off (I realise and accept it's a common problem sometimes) however when I rang to arrange for an emergency appointment to have them fixed, I wasn't able to see him due to him not working in the Sutherland Shire location. It was only then that I was informed he works all over New South Wales and Miranda is his part time office. I had to have 2 emergency visits to my local dentist to have wires cut as when the brackets fell off, the wire was long and piercing into my child's cheeks so she couldn't eat at all. Even my local dentist couldn't believe I had been asked by the Orthadontist to just drop into a dentist to fix the bracket problem temporarily until Dr Van Vuuren was back in town. I paid $2300 for Dr Van Vuuren to put the braces on and had been contracted to pay a monthly instalment to pay the remainder of the fee. I would never have engaged this Orthadontist had I known he wasn't available locally if we had any problems with the braces and believe this should have been made clear. Now I have moved to another Orthadontist (who is available 5 days a week) It was only after moving that I realised how much better the service was elsewhere, much more gentle with my child, (Dr Van Vuuren was a bit rough I now see) and a really thorough explanation of treatment plan. Second child has had braces put on by new Orthadontist, so happy and haven't had a single brace come off in 3weeks, so gentle with her in the chair. Needless to say that Dr Van Vuuren won't return any of my $2300 for services I do not believe the value has been used yet. So very disappointed as I feel I was mislead by believing I would have a service available for my child's braces. (For $7500 I think I should have accessible Repairs in a timely manner which I assume are part of that service.) I don't think it's practical to expect me to have to go to my local dentist, or have to drive over an hour away to a different Orthadontist office to fix a problem. Do yourself a favour and make sure he is regularly based in your area before you engage in contract with this Orthadontist.
