"Paying tribute to its lively past, Alexander Bar is named after the original owner of the hotel first built on the site in the 1880s. This was reincarnated in 1926 as The Hotel Alexander. Alexander Bar is now the elegant ground floor attraction at The Savoy Hotel Little Collins, infused with a rich history. Famous guests could once be found here during the jazz-era and beyond, sipping on cocktails while listening to the easy sounds of crooners sharing the scene.The space has recently been refurbished in a contemporary Art Deco design, honouring its origins. The bar, encased in marble, showcases bold geometric patterned carpets, linear angled pillars, full length mirrors, and classic tray ceilings, complemented by soft lighting."

I tried to reach out privately but did not receive a reply. I frequent the bar as I loved the ambience and service. As far as catching up with with friends is concerned it is an amazing spot. But this evening, I was met with disappointment- I was denied a seating spot I usually would sit at when there was 2 of us, the reason given was “the spot is reserved for only 6 people or more”. We were instead placed on the side close to the doors and they’ve also later seated some other customers next to us that made it feel cramped instead of spreading it out. Lastly, immediately after we finished our meal, a waitress came over and said “do you want your bill now?”. The restaurant was not packed and it was not near to closing time either. It really baffled us. I was really embarrassed as it was suppose to be a farewell meal for the mentioned friend. I loved the service before this and was always proud to bring friends and family over for a catch up, but this experience changed my confidence about the bar. I hope the bar takes note as it was previously one of my favorite places to frequent, and I would love for that to be the way it was again.
I loved every part of my experience here. I was greeted with happy and helpful staff. Was extremely happy to chat about everything and talked well. My steak was the best in every way, while my partner loved her burger. Was a little on the pricy side, but that’s fine for the quality of the service and food!
Food came out cold and the service was not acceptable at all. The time it took them to seat me and my partner and take our orders while happily having conversations with other diners, i dont know how they are in this business! It ruins the good reputation of the hotel which we regularly stay at and the reception are pleasant.
Excellent service and care from our waiter, made our night memorable. Great food and wine, loose leaf tea of my choice. Highly recommended.
We had a fantastic experience here while staying in Melbourne for the F1. Ambience was super smooth, food was delicious, and the gentleman behind the bar was on point with his service and cocktail skills Will definitely be back next visit!
We started with drinks and nibbles and progressed to dinner. Fabulous service by Caelan and staff. The chef catered to my dietary requests beautifully. The food was so tasty and we each had something different! Can't recommend it highly enough. We spent four and a half hours there and were sad to leave. Lovely atmosphere.
Great restaurant for an in hotel establishment. The 400g New York strip loin was cooked to order but slightly over seasoned for my taste. The accompanying blue cheese, beetroot and walnut salad was good my side of vegetables was overdone but we'll flavoured. The server was polite and professional however more staff could help or simply having room service requests be answered elsewhere rather than at the restaurant. For a meal and side approx $50 a head.
Most horrible food i have ever eaten! Maybe from the frozen section in woolworths thrown in the oven and voila! It was terrible and the menu misleading. Poor quality and i won't be back!
We stopped here for a light dinner and found it wonderful. Great hospitality from a friendly Gerard and the food was really tasty. Would recommend.
Just came in for drinks and a cheese board but our bartender was AWESOME! cool vibes and great drinks.
