Xoong
"XOONG, the addition to Auckland’s thriving restaurant hub of Mt Eden Village, not far from Dominion Road, offers diners the best Asian fusion food in Auckland in a series of captivating dining rooms.Drawing from North East Asian influences, one is immersed into the bold and textural design of the 150 seat restaurant. Over two stories diners will find intimate spaces and secluded dining areas juxtaposed by minimalist Japanese and intricate Chinese designs. Opposite the cocktail bar a canopy of dramatic red lanterns leads you past the open kitchen and chef tables to the courtyard, offering guests a delightful journey of discovery.China and Japan make strange bedfellows as their tumultuous history would tell us and this dramatic past"

The food was excellent, gorgeously decorated, and well prepared. The service, however, was average. Although the waitress was competent and professional, she forgot to refill our water glasses, which is a very fundamental and crucial task. She didn't ask as to whether we wanted to have dessert. We waited for five to ten minutes and no one to be seen. I would recommend this restaurant..
A must visit restaurant in Auckland. Walking in, the great decor and vibe really set our expectations. We felt we'd decided on the right restaurant. There were four different staff members that served us throughout the night, and each person was super fun, friendly, and helpful. We had a few cocktails, all of which looked impressive and tasted even better. The food was amazing. We ended up getting three small dishes with a side of rice which was plenty of food for the two of us, although we still had room for a small dessert. Each dish was fantastic. Looked like an artwork and tasted just so good. Will definitely he back!
Awesome experience and service! The cuisine is more Asian features and mixed with local taste, bring normal dishes with a new soul! creative dishes with a well-displayed delicious food is what we got today. More spaces upstairs and rich design details are hidden everywhere, especially loves the courtyard, glad to try it on a summer night next time.
Atmosphere and ambience was overall lovely, but our experience was deteriorated from feeling rushed to order and finish our meal. We weren’t check on for our needs but rather asked, “can I take that plate away for you yet?”. Not too sure what’s the rush when we’re paying lots of money for the tiniest portions to enjoy between the 4 of us - which I will add, was below average as you can get much better Asian fusion elsewhere. On the good side, our waters were always topped up. I don’t rate the dishes below as they were far too expensive for what you can get. The ‘Pad Thai’ had no love. About 3 pieces of pork and 3 pieces of prawn was found in the mix for $34. We were informed that the menu was designed for sharing, but that Pad Thai was genuinely only enough for one person to eat. 80% of the squid plate was sauce and then 20% was squid for $23. Chicken wings $20 for 4 was just sad. Also had the duck salad too which was alright. We wanted to order more as we were still hungry but decided we would just hop on over to explore the other places nearby.
Yum! We ordered a set menu which contained a sample of all their best dishes. They portioned them out according to how many people we had so it was super convenient for us. Highlight dishes were the tuna sashimi, duck fried rice, and wok tossed veges - intense wok hay! They gave us an upstairs table which was fairly spaced out from the other tables so it wasn’t too loud around us. Awesome service :
This place has a lot of good food, and it's of good quality and usually arrives very quickly! Xoong also has pretty good prices! although the menu isn't very big, the other redeeming qualities of this restaurant highly compensate for that. Some things I would recommend from here include; the sweet and sour porkbelly, the wagyu beef, and also starting off with some small plates first because a lot of good flavours are in that selection. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this place to others for multiple reasons, as I very much enjoyed my experience here. The customer service is very good, and it's in a nice location in the Mt Eden shops.
Been here 3 times now in 3 different ways - takeaways in Level 3, dine in for a small group in the restaurant, plus a larger group out the back. Never been disappointed. Food and service is both amazing. Hard to go past the popping prawns, eggplant chips and tapioca pudding!
Amazing customer service + astounding food. Food portion is okay. They also have nice cocktails and mock-tails. Would definitely come here again. Recommended dishesDuck Fried Rice, Crispy Squid
We enjoyed the food and the decor is nice too. I would say the eggplant chips were the favourite accompanied by the tamarind sauce. The rolled noodles in the pad Thai were delicious, although the chicken was okay. Dishes are for sharing so worked well with our group of four.
If you like asian fusion, dont recommend. Tasteless, small portion. I think it is famous because of Big space and kind FOH. If you are foodie, Dont GO.Food: 2/5
