I guess I don’t have very many options when it comes to grocery shopping on Waiheke and paying a somewhat OK price for non specialty goods. I’d much rather shop elsewhere but that’s not really an option when it comes to budget. The prices here continue to rise while the profits do too. We should all be supporting the smaller local shops before this one. Check out RAW around the corner for fresher produce or the organic shop on Tahi road. The amount of good food that Woolworths puts into the bins is absolutely Criminal. If you do not believe me, go check their bins for yourself or see photos attached. Oh wait, they’ve now added gates and padlocks to their bins making liberating perfectly good, edible food from their rubbish bins now a prosecutable crime. No wonder your prices are so high, you’re making the people pay for your inability to manage your stock and cover your losses. The people of this island have a right to know the truth. Do better.nnPlease note that the photos provided have been taken over time.
Woolworths Waiheke, located in the heart of Oneroa village, is a small but essential supermarket that serves both locals and visitors on the island. While it’s more compact than mainland stores, it’s thoughtfully stocked with everyday necessities, including fresh produce, chilled items, pantry staples, and a decent selection of wine and local products. The store is clean and tidy, and staff are usually friendly, offering helpful service with a laid-back island attitude that suits the pace of life on Waiheke.nnDue to the store’s size and the logistics of island supply, some items may be more expensive than at larger Auckland locations, and certain products can sell out quickly—especially during weekends or peak tourist seasons. While the store does its best to keep up with demand, it’s always wise to shop earlier in the day or midweek to avoid missing out on essentials. For a broader selection, many residents still make trips to the mainland, but for daily or weekly shopping, this Woolworths does the job well.nnThe location is ideal, just a short walk from the beach, cafes, and the ferry bus stop, with some parking available nearby. It’s especially convenient for people staying in Oneroa or passing through for a day trip. Though not a large-scale supermarket, it plays a vital role in the community and is often praised for how much it manages to stock given the limitations of island logistics.nnOverall, Woolworths Waiheke is a reliable and much-appreciated part of life on the island. It may not have the scale or prices of the city stores, but it makes up for it with friendly service, convenience, and the charm that comes with shopping in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful destinations.
Terrible bike parking, it is around the corner of the shop in the dark, I feel very insecure leaving my bike with my panniers there.nnThere is a great spot right next to the door where they could place 4 or 5 bike stands.nnWith bike parking out the front this would be a 5 star supermarket
Being the only store on the island I am sure that stock and prices are not in line with rest of the country. That being said, some of the staff here are amazing. Lucie in particular is always a joy as she's funny and sassy in equal parts and knows the aisle and shelf location of everything in the store.
good to find Countdown supermarket in Waiheke island, it has many varieties to choose from..my son enjoys the free fruit all the time, he always grabs banana.. we shopped some items for dinner, nonly that the prices in here are a little higher than the ones at Auckland..it has a basement parking, lift and ramp too..
