I've always wanted to go to this cafe otw past but never have. It has a gift store indoor where you can purchase small items from which is a nice touch. Outdoor and indoor seating. Cute doll's house for smaller children. Menu wasn't amazing but wasn't bad. Friendly staff. Decor is perhaps a little dated but I suppose that's part of it's charm. Would recommend for a state highway stop off for a snack.
A most interesting and informative walk through history, using a self guided audio device. There is an excellent licensed cafe as well, with a great food selection, and wonderful service . Congratulations to the owners ,this place should be a "must do" destination.
I really liked this place. It was the first convenient place to stop that looked lovely and inviting after leaving Wellington. Lots of parking, lots of table, speedy service and fast delivery of food without it compromising on quality. The coffee was good too. Meant we could eat good food and get back on the road promptly. It does get busy by the look of it, but it has quietened down when we got there, which was about 1.30 ish. Think it closes at 3pm. Will definitely be using this as our regular pitstop when driving up from Wellington. My son loved the tractor outside.
This is our local go to cafe for brunch and lunch and we are frequently happy with the food and fast and friendly service. We have watched the arrival of extra houses onto the property for several years and were delighted to see the Heritage Walk behind the cafe open. When we finally had a chance to do the walk we were even more delighted. It might be the best $20 we've spent at a museum. Time period houses from 1860 to 1970, a fascinating and informative walk through New Zealand history. Great eye to detail and it brought on moments of nostalgia. Even our overseas visitors really enjoyed the experience. I'd highly recommend the Heritage Walk but allow yourself more than an hour to really take it all in. Well done Francis and Alan, it's a great addition to a local venue. Kid-friendliness: Child play equipment out the back Parking: Plenty Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp
Fabulous cafe with great menu, super friendly staff and service. Lovely gift shop, sad there were no tea towels for sale there! Out the back was a wonderful heritage walk through houses from 1860’s to 1960’s. The owner has gone a great job with them and was very interesting looking at the style of home and decor through the years. This place is well worth a look. Vegetarian options: Had a few decent veggie options Parking: Plenty of parking space, but this is a very popular place as was very full with visitors Wheelchair accessibility: There was a ramp for access to building
I was part of a group of 5, with no booking wanting a late lunch. We were welcomed, everything we wanted was available, and it was served without a lengthy wait. The staff were cheerful, and competent. Most importantly the five meals that were served up were well presented, hot, and delicious. It is unusual for me to give 5 stars on the first visit, I will be going back again.
My choice for a great cafe in the Sanson area. You'll get real, healthy, wholesome food as opposed to meat pies/sausage rolls/greasy food, although they do have meat pies and sausage rolls, just better quality. They also have vegan options and scrumptious flavour combinations for sweet and savory goodies. Milkshakes, smoothies, coffee, tea and professional service to boot! This is my go to spot for grabbing brunch or lunch when heading into Wellington from Waioru or on the way to Waioru from Wellington
Went today for the first time. Lovely setting. Delicious cake and hot chocolate. Really enjoyed the heritage walk through the houses of different eras. Beautifully done and decorated. Obviously a labour of love. Like going back in time.
Good food if you need to stop on the State Highway - but the highlight really is the tour of the period historic houses!
Very friendly. Loved the atmosphere. Yummy food for sure. Good portions.Food: 5/5
